IRON Hits $300 Mil Mark, INDY Close Behind

Date: Thursday, June 19, 2008

As indicated in Sunday's Mania box office report, Iron Man is crossing the $300 mil domestic mark this week. In fact, the Jon Favrea-directed adaptation of the Marvel superhero is crossing that mark today and is expected to be somewhere around $301.0 by this afternoon. Through Tuesday's closing numbers, the film was sitting at the $299.3 mil and it's averaging $700,000 on weekdays entering its 8th week of release.

The film will be the first one to hit that plateau of 2008. If you include the $249.5 mil foreign gross as of last weekend, the film has pulled in $548.8 mil (likely $550 mil as of this afternoon). Iron is still showing on 2,403 theaters across the nation.

Meanwhile, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will likely be the 2nd film of 2008 to cross the $300.0 mil domestic mark in the next few weeks. While the Robert Downey Jr. film is entering its 8th week of release, Indy is only in its 5th week and it already has $279.4 mil as of Tuesday. It's averaging $1-$2 mil a day and still showing on 3,804 theaters across the nation. If you include the foreign gross of $359.4, the film is the highest worldwide grosser of 2008 with $638.9 mil.

Both films are being distributed by Paramount Pictures. Add on the fact that Paramount also has Kung Fu Panda sitting at the $126.0 mil mark in its second full week of release and it's easy to say which studio is the top performer of 2008 thus far. There's two more Paramount films this summer, one being Michael Myers' Love Guru this weekend and the other being Tropic Thunder on August 15, 2008.

I guess Paramount won't miss Dreamworks too much after they split.

Robert Downey Jr is rumored to be circling the Hugh Hefner biopic. Now that I would pay to see.

YES I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE TROPIC THUNDER, I SAW THE BIG CARD BOARD ADD AT THE THEATER WHEN I WENT TO SEE INDY. RDJ'S FACE IS HILARIOUS.

I hope Iron Man stays ahead of Indy, but I doubt it will.

Too bad Paramount pushed Star Trek back to 09.

First I'm glad they pushed Star Trek back. More time to make it good! And they better, those damn asshole have almost run it into the ground. My opinion of course, many will say that's already in the ground and heading towards the center of the Earth.

As for this. I'm happy to hear of IM's success. I honestly thought that Indy IV and Dark Knight (SHUT UP HANSO! I KNOW WHAT YOUR GOING TO SAY!) would be the big contenders this summer and figured that Jones would be pulling ahead of Batman ... But then I didn't count on Indy IV sucking so much. I bet the continued success of it is due to parents taking their kids to see. My kids loved it. They like the big adventure stuff almost as much as me. I am a little disappointed though, I really wanted 'The Incredible Hulk' to take off and be successful across the board *sigh* oh well BUT there's still 'The Dark Knight' to look forward to! (There you go hanso!)

Word!

Im gonna be truthful with you all, I could careless how much any of these flicks end up making cause I don't get 1 damn cent from it. I want them to do well enough so they can get a sequel though.
So The Dark Knight can come in dead last or 1st, I don't care, just give me The Dark Knight Returns in 2011.

Having said that, you all know Dark Knight is going to make 99999999999999999 gazillion dollars on opening day and then the world will end.

LOL. And the sad irony is the world will end before hanso actually gets to see it.
