Box office figures published by Box Office Mojo show that the 'Iron Man' movie has some strong legs, as predicted.
The film stayed in the #1 spot this week, collecting another $50.5 million, bringing its total domestic take to $177 million. The film saw a 48.8% drop in audience, which seems to be an average level of attrition.
It topped two new debut films, 'Speed Racer' and 'What Happens in Vegas' which were a virtual tie for second place.
According to Mojo, 'Speed Racer' (which doubtless cost a lot more money to make than 'Iron Man') was a major disappointment, with a mere $20.2 million coming in on the opening stretch. The film suffered from largely negative reviews and bad word of mouth.
It's doubtful 'Iron Man' can hold the #1 spot for three weeks running, with the new 'Narnia' movie opening this weekend, but perhaps a push by rabid fans can give the film that rare trifecta.
