Ahhhh....Super Bowl. Does anybody who reads this site actually like Football? Do the two separate "fanboys" (of sports and sci-fi genre) actually mix?? I know that all of my friends who like sports DO NOT care to go to San Diego (Comic Con) with me every year...unless they can see a Padres game!

Anyway, I DO watch the Super Bowl every year to witness the media craze, and I'm not sure if anybody agrees, but these "commercials" everyone says they like to watch the Bowl for, are getting increasingly lame. Was there a memorable commercial from last year at all?? Did they hype any GOOD movies at all??

For the money that it costs, and the number of people who watch it, I don't know why this doesn't bring out the best in commercial making. I think people are getting lazy. They even air commercials we have already seen!!?? (boo Pepsi)

That said, you got it right Dazzler. How about IJ4, and BOND and Star Trek, and Dark Knight, Wanted, Mummy, HELLBOY, Speed Racer...

WOW, you would think the game would be FULL of teasers for these movies. We'll see....

Hopefully we will not get the crapfest of teasers for movies we don't care to see, like last year.

I remember the Hulk trailer appeared on the Super Bowl 5 years ago...

Football is my third love after movies and comics. Ok maybe my sixth love, I left some things out. Rooting for the Pats to complete the perfect season. I'm not a Pats fan, I'm just sick and tired of the 72 Dolphins toasting the loss of the last undefeated team every year. This way I'll never have to hear from them again and they ncan all die knowing that they were not the only to complete the feat.
Looking forward to the new commercial and I'm hoping to get a Hulk one also and might as well add another of Indy.

SC- Yeah, I've got season tickets for both the Bengals and the Reds. It is possible to not sit at your computer all day. Actually go outside, you know, sunshine, fresh air, all that jazz. Look into it...

I am just a fan of good stories and sport does tend to have good stories. I like most sports but football is the top one for me, it can be like a good team book, people getting hurt and rising to the occasion, rivalries can be looked at as fictional good vs evil. Stuff like that makes me like sports in general; books, comics, movies and "good" TV shows evoke those same feelings for me as sports tends to.
Just my two old coppers....

I spent a good part of my late teens/early twenties collecting and reading comic books (until life intervened and I couldn't afford to keep it up). I am currently re-reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I have probably seen every Marvel and DC Comics live action superhero movie (that I can think of). And I just finished my first season (after 19 years on the wait list) as a season ticket holder for the Washington Redskins. In short, supercollector, to answer your question... Yes. :-)

As someone who personally hates sports and the fever-like mentality that it brings over people (I grew up in Wisconsin, so unless you've been around Cheeseheads and their Packer worship, you've no idea what the word "fanaticism" really means) -

I can answer you absolutely that, yes, people who like comics and genre movies tend to like sports, too.

Football is kinda like Christianity in that way - even most of those who aren't at church every Sunday still pray once in a while.

I've been on so many forums and, before the Web hit, mailing lists that were about comics or games that would get derailed for a long time when someone started talking baseball or hockey or football. A handful (myself included) would complain a little (especially with the mailing lists back in the dial-up days of low baud rate) that we didn't sign up for sports talks, and the majority would shout us down.

So, in a nut shell, yes, many comic book fans love sports. In the USA (probably most of the worlds) sports are pretty much indoctrinated in you as you grow up - its a major part of our entertainment culture.

I would say I'm a sports fan first and movie/tv fan second too. I'm a huge fantasy sports fan, including both baseball and football, and I can't tell you how much more fun it is to watch a sporting event in HD than in regular digital picture. I'm also a massive sci-fi fan too and even write some of my own fan fiction. I don't think there's any rule that says one can't be both a sports fan and movie fanboy. I actually think it's important to have a variety of interests so you don't isolate yourself from other stuff that's out there.

Oh and Merin, you may enjoy this story since you're familiar with Cheeseheads. I heard a story a couple years ago about a woman who has Packers season tickets and was arrested for embezzling money from her company. She was brought before a judge who offered her an option for her sentence: 90 days in jail or give up 3 games' worth of her tickets (12 in total) to the Make A Wish Foundation. She said she would think about the judge's offer. I don't know what her decision was in the end, but I think that is a good example of how crazy Packer fans can be.
