VARIETY reports that New Line Cinema and Marvel Studios have announced that a film adaptation of IRON MAN is headed for the big screen under the guidance of SMALLVILLE creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who also wrote both SANGHAI NOON and SHANGHAI KNIGHTS.

The film is tentatively slated for a 2005 release. Marvel's IRON MAN character is the alternate identity of multimillionaire industrialist Tony Stark (traditionally depicted as resembling Ted Turner in his younger days) who develops a super-strong exoskeleton that's chockablock with cool techno-gadgetry, such as rocket shoes.
