Iron Scribes Penning HIGHLANDER Remake

Looks like we have another remake of a genre cult classic to look forward to, fellow Maniacs. Art Marcum and Matt Holloway---scribes of Iron Man---have been put in charge of getting a script together for a remake of Highlander. Summit acquired the rights to remake the 1986 cult classic from Davis/Panzer Productions. Peter Davis, one of the original producers of the 1986 film, will also produce the new version of the film.

The original film, directed by
Russell Mulcahy, starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown and went onto launch a franchise of films and three television series.

Having mixed feelings about this. I think a reboot was needed after the failings of the sequels but I still love the original so much that is going to be hard to surpass. Again I know I say this a lot but let's not tame it down for the sake of a pg13 rating. Anyway one of my criteria for sequels is that they be at least 20 years old so I guess this qualifies. I guess I'm down.

I'm also having mixed feelings. Love the first movie. It is a classic and the editing and direction are simply amazing. Sure some of it is 80's cheese, but over all a great movie. And if it's PG-13 then don't bother.

I'll be seeing it no matter what just to compare I guess. Who knows maybe it will kick ace.

This is good news, I mean as much as I liked the first film it is pretty 1980's and some of the budget constraints were pretty obvious, but given the effects/CGI, access to locations, budgets, etc. this remake could be pretty epic.

As far as a new franchise goes however, either make it a solo film that wraps itself up (like the first film was meant to do), or make it something like a trilogy with a continuing and sustainable continuity, but tread carefully because my God the sequels to the first killed this Franchise.

I am CONNOR Mcleoud of the clan Mcleoud bitches!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a remake I can look foward to, maybe it will make me forget Highlander: The Source.

Bale should play another Connor and sign for this other franchise.

Bring back the Queen music for nostalgia. "heerrrrreeeeeeee weeeee areeeee.....

Ok just leave this one alone! There can be only one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is pointless. we already know how it turns out. "there can be only one" is obvious. additionally the thing that made the first so interesting is lost. we know that they live forever and so flipping back and forth between time periods with the one person in all periods doesnt have the same unknown it did before because the movie has already been made
and we know what is going on.

forget this pile of dung that was once a good movie and move on to something original and intelligent and quit wasting time with this remake.

I agree with most of you guys. Mixed feelings, loved the original and the TV series but the sequels are the movie definition of WTF. After the last movie they ran a perfectly good concept into psilocybin madness. Normally I usually want originals left alone unless there is some other factors: novel or play adaptations, new tech & FX making it better, extreme age or obscurity. Well, off the wall sequels will now have to be one of them. The basic idea is still good. Hopefully, they get good people on it.
Word of advice - keep Peter Davis, the original producer away from it. The MacLeods can't survive anymore poorly shot, poorly written, poorly edited films.

Yes, the first Highlander was the best! It's a cult classic, but I'm with Akobus. For nostalgia sake I would love to see a big budget epic time-spanning remake with better effects, more action, a rocking soundtrack, and bigger battles. Just for shits and giggles, I came up with titles and summaries for each chapter.
Chapter 1, Highlander:The Quickening, re-introduces the Scottish Highlander Connor Macleod, his re-birth as an Immmortal after being killed in battle at the hands of the powerful Immortal Kurgan, his training by Ramirez, and trying to find his place in a changing world while battling other immortals.

Chapter 2, Highlander: The Gathering, takes place in modern-day New York as the last remaining Immortals on the planet battle for the Prize. The evil and powerful Kurgan has plans to win the Prize and plunge the world into darkness and chaos and become it's new master.Only Connor Macleod stands in his way.

Chapter 3, Highlander: The One It's the final battle as the last two Immortals, Connor Macleod and the Kurgan fight for the Prize and ultimate power, while the fate of the human race hangs in the balance. There can be only One!

Okay that's it. What do you think?

Oh God!! NO NO NO NO NO, Say it isn't so Joe! Let this freaking franchise (if you can call it that) die in piece. Loved the TV show and it should have ended there. This thing won't even make 20 mil I don't care how they remake it. It will bomb worse than Speed Racer is.

"THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE...err... seven... plus a show... and two other shows... and an anime Highlander too... oh, tat quickening thing, it never happened... and oh, now we're Aliens from the planet Zeist... oh wait... no we're not, we're all from the past but if we return to the future then we negate the whole quickening thing from the first movie.

actually there can be SEVERAL highlanders!"

honestly, i own it on DVD... not interested in a remake... who cares.

again what is up with the hot pink background????
