Game of Thrones: The Children Review (Article) - 6/16/2014 9:34:37 AM

trying to post for a while, taking ddiaz's advice and removing quotation marks and stuff.

I was pretty happy with the finale overall. I think it contained spoilers for me, or maybe it is better phrased that some things I was ambiguos about may have been confirmed. Namely regarding the Mountain and Jojen Reed. Didn't expect the final scene to be of Arya. I was expecting that to be Tyrion shooting his pops. They didn't add the part were Tywin's bowels release and Tyrion says something along the lines of, It appears Tywin Lannister does not in fact shit gold. I think they also wimped out and had Shae attack Tyrion to make his killing of her slightly more sympathetic. I know a lot of people who no longer are as big of fans of him because he straight up kills her in the books.

Gonna have to post in stages I think, it keeps failing on the big one.

Game of Thrones: The Watchers on the Wall Review (Article) - 6/9/2014 12:17:24 PM

batkruse...  I believe I have a good idea of what could be the final scene of the season.   Actually I have two theories.  I can't post them in detail, as that would be a spoiler.  To be vague, I think one could involve a common Westeros saying involving the word gold.  The other possibility I'm thinking of would invovle stone hearts.

Calamity Johnson, Aemon is most definately not Dany's grandfather.  Dany is desended from Aegon the Unlikely from the Dunk and Egg short stories.  Aegon was Aemon's younger brother.   In fact in last night's episode, Aemon stated he could have been king of the Seven Kingdoms but he abidicated allowing Aegon to take the throne.  So I went and looked up a family tree to be sure,  Aemon is brother to Aegon who's son Jaeharys was the father to Aerys II (the Mad King) who was Dany's dad.

About Maester Aemon, reminding us he was a Targaryen.    Think it was after news of the Red Wedding reached the Wall and Jon was going to leave.   Aemon, told of how he wanted to leave a couple times, most recently when the Mountain killed Reagar Targayen's children and raped the Oberyn's sister.    I believe Aemon is Dany's great great great uncle, give or take a great.  He is old.    I think its kind of good that they reminded people, as I'm sure many have forgotton.   Its a lot of names to hear in this show.

I'm pretty happy they actually killed Ygrittte.   I had a feeling the show runners where going to let her live and kind of combine her with another character to trim things up.  The other character should have appeared in the show back when John was with the Wildlings, but it would have just been a cameo basically.

Mooncrow answered why the Wildlings want to move south.   The White Walkers don't discriminate, they are bad news for all humans.  Mance is a smart guy, he knows this.  I suspect it is the reason he was able to organize all the separate Wildling tribes who don't really like each other into one group.

Hannibal: Mizumono Review (Article) - 5/27/2014 6:59:57 AM

I too was impressed.   Great episode of a great show.  So who survives beside Will?  I can see them killing both Jack and Alanna off, even though the characters are around in the books later on.  I think Jack will probably survive, and Alanna is toast.

Game of Thrones: The Laws of Gods and Men Review (Article) - 5/12/2014 9:44:10 AM

I hope they have the next "phase" of Tyrion's trial next week, but I'm guessing its probably two weeks away.

Minor irritant that has stood out the past couple weeks.  In season one, they dyed the actress playing Dany's eyebrows to match her wig.  I know its been awhile since they stopped doing it but it has stood out to me more recently.  Is it really that hard to dye them and wash out the dye at the end of filming?  No temporary dyes?  It's weird seeing dark brown eyebrows and that platinum hair together.

Hannibal: Ko No Mono Review (Article) - 5/12/2014 9:29:55 AM

I think Will and Jack have to be very very careful on who they let in on their plans.   Hannibal is just too perceptive for most to be able to fool him.   In fact, he probably is already on to Alana just from the gun powder he smelled.  She did give a good reason, but Hannibal seems to be able to think a few moves ahead so to speak.

I would imagine the rest of Jack's crew were dealing with falsefied dental records and thought they really were performing an autopsy of Freddie Loundes.

As soon as Margot was pregnant with Will's child, I was waiting for either an abortion or a violent act to terminate the pregnancy.  We didn't have to wait long for that to happen.

This was a pretty good episode and I am looking forward to the next.

Also, there is good news in that Hannibal has been renewed for a season three despite sub par ratings.    I wonder if Jack is going to survive his showdown with Hannibal.  I know the character is around later in the books, but they are doing thier own thing on the show so who knows.

Hannibal: Naka-Choko Review (Article) - 5/6/2014 7:39:04 AM

Not sure if I like the path they are taking Will down.  I have to believe that it is partly a trap to catch Hannibal, too many fishing and bait references early in the season for it not to be.  On the flip side, since we get flashes of Will's thoughts, the darkness is there in him.  If it is all a trap to catch Hannibal, it is pretty extreame, I mean most likely Will (or someone else if he has conspirators like Jack) cut up that kid and staged the body.  I'm also pretty sure Will ate human, it looked like loins (runs along the spine) to me, not liver.

Of course I agree that Will did not kill Freddie.  She is either a temporary prisoner, or has become a willing participant in Will Hannibal trap.   If Lounds is willing to help its because also wants to see Abigail's killer caught, but Will may have had to bribe her with exclusive stories/interviews.

Alanna Bloom, totally inconsistant character or expertly manipulated by Hannibal?  Probably both in my mind.  I think they had her flip flop a little too much.

I'm a little put off by the scene from next week where they showed that burning wheel chair.  Being as the only book in the series I read was Red Dragon, I was kind of hoping they would save that for a future season.   Though I don't believe it is Freddie in the chair.   I do like how they have thrown in the line/phrase "Becoming" which was Francis Dolarhyde's phrase.
