SCI FI Channel and BBC Worldwide Americas announced a major licensing deal for the first series of the latest DOCTOR WHO adventures.

The deal grants the SCI FI Channel the first run rights for series one with an option for series two. The series will premiere on SCI FI beginning in March, airing Friday nights at 9.00pm.

Russell T Davies, Head Writer and Executive Producer told the BBC, "The Doctor's made all sorts of journeys in Time and Space, but this is one of his most exciting yet! I'm a huge fan of the SCI FI Channel, and I'm delighted that Doctor Who is appearing on a channel that supports and enhances the entire genre."

In addition, BBC Video has moved the US release date of the DVD from February 2006 to July 4, 2006 to capitalize on the exposure from the TV broadcast. As part of the deal, BBC Video and SCI FI Channel have agreed to work together on joint marketing promotions to support the brand launch.

Thanks to "Justin?" and Ryan for the heads up.

I grew up watching Doctor Who and I always wanted to check out the new (hopefully non-cheesy) version!

All Right!!! I miss The Doctor!! I have been wanting to see the new show!!!!!

Yeah I was all excited because I'd love for Who to finally come here...till I see that SciFi got the BBC to push back the date of the DVD's to JULY!!!!! THAT SUCKS!!! The UK has had them for weeks now and because SciFi needs to make money off this deal we don't get to own them for another 5 months!! That blows. It's not like whoever wanted to see the show by now couldn't have. Oh well guess I'll just have to deal with having my burned DVD copies awhile longer....sigh.

coldhardtruth I hate to break it to you but i was so excited about new who i DL this sucker last year. It is funny, interresting and cheesy as hell. It's really fun though so give it a whirl.

I hope to god they dont put the commercials into the middle of the program! I was abel to buy the DVD's from the UK - and I saw what BBC America did to Doctor Who when they had it - Blah! But let's see what the deal is -- I find it funny that SCIFI decided to take it after they turned it down the first time!

"I'm a huge fan of the SCI FI Channel,..."
OH OHHHH.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!! SUCKAH!!!!

"and I'm delighted that Doctor Who is appearing on a channel that supports and enhances the entire genre."

wait, are we talking about the same channel here? This is Sci/Fi Channel right? SUPPORTS???? Where was the SUPPORT when they axed FARESCAPE? Enhances? (oh you mean ENHANCE.. like ENHANCE meaning the REMAKE/UPDATE version of Battlestar Galactica was ENHANCED with updated special effects and CGI ships Enhanced? Or are they actually saying they can do good "original" SCI/FI shows and movies?)
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...LOL...HAHAHAHAHA!!
of course... given the track record that the big three networks have with producing new quality SCI/FI shows, I guess Sci/Fi looks like a semi-safe bet. Its not like they have to actually FUND NEW WHO SHOWS RIGHT????? These shows are 2 years old already, its not like they would think of canceling it before they air them all anyway! (like TBS did with Crusade)

It is a great show and those disappointed with the last few seasons of classic who will not be disappointed by these new episodes, here in Australia they won the timeslot every week easily

mckracken, must we be so cynical? SCI FI is the best channel we have for seeing any science fiction.

Get over Farscape. It is gone, you will survive. I am glad to see that you do at least recognize that the last thing we want is one of the networks to try to take on something like this.

I am excited to see that SCI FI has picked up the Doctor and can't wait for the shows to start.

P.S. I love the new BSG
