I like this idea. It would be funny if that's what they are going for. A serious take is not needed. I liked the adaption with Cheers guy way back when that was serious.

Jack Black is ready to take on the title role in 20th Century Fox's contemporary reimagining of the classic Jonathan Swift tale Gulliver's Travels, reports Variety. Fox is moving forward for the latest big screen adaptation of the tale with Rob Letterman (Shark Tale) signed on to direct, based on a screenplay by Nicholas Stoller and Joe Stillman (Shrek). Shooting is expected to begin in March.
Plot Concept: The story centers on Lemuel Gulliver, a free-spirited travel writer who, on an assignment to the Bermuda Triangle, suddenly finds himself a giant among men when he washes ashore on the hidden island of Lilliput, home to a population of industrious, yet tiny, people.

I think this could be a decent vehicle for Black....let's face it, with everything that's been going on, a little comedy couldn't hurt things...I have to say though, this had Ben Stiller all over it, but Jack Black isn't a bad choice...
This sounds like a great idea. Yes, it will probably be done in a comedic style and the original novel was filled with all types of social comentary, but the story has already been interpreted numerous times in movies and TV as everything from plain action-adventure to child friendly animation. A comedic version should fit in just fine.
If you want a much truer adaptation of the book you can refer to that fantastic and well done TV mini series version that starred Ted Danson. It runs occasionally on Sci-Fi or Ion channels.
I wonder if they are only going to deal with the Lilliput parts in this movie. Gulliver went through so many incredible adventures. But I guess that leaves room for sequels.
Enh. Not that crazy about Black. He's pretty good in supporting roles, but he gets a bit tiring when he's the main dude. Don't know. Guess I'll see once some material starts hitting the web.
I don't know how you could make this a two hour movie and give it justice. I've never seen a version yet that did. You could almost make a TV series out of this, but it would just be to trippy for people to watch. I enjoyed the book, but I'd rather see a mini-series than a movie. Ted Danson tried, but it was just too weird for me. Though I guess the story is weird.
I don't like this idea, I like Black, but if they are just going to end up making fun of the story they need to go a different direction. Swift's original work is a farce so if they let black get his hands on it then the movie becomes a farce of a farce and ask yourself if that makes any sense. They need to go out and get a serious actor for something like this.
