Hugh Jackman may be known for his Wolverine character--which he is currently shooting--but it seems that he's branching out and creating a new comic as well. Hugh will team with showrunner Marc Guggenheim ("Eli Stone") and Virgin Comics to bring a new comic series called Nowhere Man to shelves near you. The plan is also to adapt it into a movie with Jackman set to lead.

The trade reports the story being kept under wraps, but Jackson's Seed Productions partner John Palermo said it features a protagonist reminiscent of the one Will Smith played in I Am Legend. The concept is a futuristic world where mankind has traded privacy for safety, a premise that sprouted with Seed, Virgin CEO Sharad Devarajan and chief creative officer Gotham Chopra.

"This is our first comic, and we feel the concept is transferable to other arenas, perhaps first as a video game, and then a movie," Palermo said.

Said Jackman: "I've had so much fun in the graphic novel world with the 'X-Men' franchise that I wanted to get even more involved. I'm excited to work with Virgin and Marc and create a compelling character and story that hopefully will also make it to the big screen."

Ah, crapola...I was hoping the awesome TV show Nowhere Man was being made into a movie. That's a show that got a raw deal from UPN when the network was in its infancy and could be turned into an excellent film. Jackman would be a fine fit for Tom Veil if the show were to be turned into a film too, which got my hopes even higher. Oh well...

This sounds like a great idea. Not the story idea because not enough info was released to evaluate that. But that Jackman is expanding his creative outlets and potentially creating a new character that may be enjoyable.
I wonder if he'll try to fit singing and dancing into the character like he tried with his Viva Laughlin TV series.

Aw, I was also hoping this pertained to the TV show. Too bad, because I think that show would've been an excellent movie. (Then again, maybe its serialized concept was just ahead of its time.)

So the idea is to be able to say the movie is based on a comic. If they already have the idea and concept why not get a script started and get the ball rolling. It's Virgin and by putting Jackman's name on the cover isn't going t get me to buy it. Especially since it doesn't sound like anything new or grounbreaking, although a film could always be a different story.

Man, I thought Nowhere Man was going to be the show I've been thinking of for awhile...talking about someone mentioning the orginal...but it's not. I already looked it up as a possibility. Anyway, I remember a show from a long time ago about a guy who died and came back with superpowers or something and worked for a shadowy government organization. Also, he's not allowed to meet anyone from his past life-I think he looks different too. I remember the credits having something to do with the Da Vinci painting with the eight armed guy and maybe a fly. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I never watched back then and then once when I was stuck in a hospital it came on SciFi, as a old syndicated rerun, but I could never catch another episode or the name.

MrJawbreaking,

The show you're thinking of is called Now And Again, and it starred Eric Close and a pre-24 Dennis Haysbert. John Goodman was the "original" man who was killed and was "re-born" as Eric Close. Haysbert was the government official who was Close's handler and prevented him from running into his old family. I didn't watch it during its original run, but I caught a few episodes on Sci-Fi Channel. Don't know if the network still airs the show at all though.
