In an interview with ComingSoon.net, Hugh Jackman said the script for his upcoming X-MEN spinoff, WOLVERINE, was now set and ready to go.

"We've now signed off on the script. If you know about the history of 'X-Men' movies, that's a revolution for us. We're a year away from shooting the film and we have the script," Jackman said. "And, by the way, it is unbelievable. It's a David Benioff script. He's probably the hottest writer going around town, and he was beating down our door to write this movie. It was the most amazing thing. So, we have this fantastic script. I've got a couple of movies coming out in the next month, and I might be able to tell you who the director is by then. We're seriously into talking about it now."

I've learned that "unbelievable" "fantastic" "amazing" and almost any other term doesn't really mean much to me anymore when it comes to Hollywood.

Bad scripts seldom sell and many of the good or "unbelievable, fantastic, amazing" scripts get mucked over by the men in suits.

All I really care about is: does this involve Japan and the Hand? If not, I'm not really interested.

I actually, don`t mind if "The Hand" is in it or not. In fact, I really doubt they will have anything to do with this movie. They were a big part of the Electra movie and I don`t think they would want anything sort of relation to that film.
I hope that they focus more on Canada and the Weapon X project. And if its going to have an origin story, show some of what went on in Wolverine:Origins. I`d really like to see Sabretooth or Dog.

When does it take place? Pre X-Men or Post X-3? I doubt it will have anything to do with Japan because they haven't shown that part of his character at all in the movies.

I'm with you browbeat. If I remember correctly, the same was said for Pearl Harbor. Ah hell, i'll see it though. I tell you what looks uhm..........interesting? Saw the Ghostrider trailer on the Grudge 2 movie this weekend. Might be a good popcorn movie, it's just, is it me, or has Nic Cage become a parody of himself?

I'm hoping for a Japan-themed movie with Wolverine. I always thought that was when his character really got fleshed out.

Should be either Sabretooth hunting him in Canada or his Weapon X origins. The Japan stuff was awesome samurai style wolvie but he didnt really have a great baddy in that series.

It's not going to be about Japan. Cinescape left out this key part of the interview:

He added that Wolverine will definitely be a prequel but will not follow the Japanese storyline that comic books have addressed.

"At present, no. That is still something we really want to do. What we need to do is establish who he is and find out how he became Wolverine," he explained.

I'm actually glad they're not doing it. Bring on Weapon X and Canada!

I thought they covered Weapon X in X2, but if want to go into that more, I'm ok with it. I would like to see some vicious (as vicious as PG13 gets anyway) battles, especially with Sabertooth.

God.. who cares how he became Wolverine?

If you saw the first 2 X-men movies you can pretty much put it together.

I don't really care to see a movie about the guy that picked up Rogue in the first film. They have a chance to move on and add more to the character- perhaps do a cameo or two- give us the "brooding over Jean's death" Wolverine.

...but no let's throw out stuff people liked and make up our own story... yes, the Hand thing would have been great.
