Comic Con International's Spring 2008 issue features a cover shot of Samuel L. Jackson in his role as The Octopus from the upcoming Will Eisner's THE SPIRIT.

As previously discussed the big screen adaptation is being directed by Frank Miller (SIN CITY).  The film also stars Gabriel Macht, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Sarah Paulson, Paz Vega, Jaime King, Dan Lauria, Stana Katic, Johnny Simmons and Louis Lombardi.

The story centers on a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) has a different mission: he's going to wipe out Spirit's beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront... all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader. Surrounding him at every turn are Ellen Dolan (Sarah Paulson), the whip-smart girl-next-door; Silken Floss (Scarlett Johansson), a punk secretary and frigid vixen; Plaster of Paris (Paz Vega), a murderous French nightclub dancer; Lorelei (Jaime King), a phantom siren; and Morgenstern (Stana Katic), a sexy young cop. Then of course, there's Sand Saref (Eva Mendes), the jewel thief with dangerous curves. She's the love of his life turned bad. Will he save her or will she kill him? In the vein of "Batman Begins" and "Sin City," "The Spirit" takes us on a sinister, gut-wrenching ride with a hero who is born, murdered and born again.

THE SPIRIT will hit theaters January 22, 2009.

Jackson looks like a Pimp.

SLJ looks fierce! In the high stylized world of Frank Miller his look is more than appropiate... And the pimp association is intentional!

I love the look and the way Miller is doing this but the trailer played with IronMan in one of the shows I saw and was greeted with groans from the crowd. I don't think too many people are sold on the SinCity look. IMO what helped SinCity was that it was the first of its kind and the novelty helped bring people in. I'm crossing my fingers for this one. By the way the release was pushed up to December.

On a seperate note, it seems that Jarrod is on vacation but Mania seems to be leaving out some headlines and rumors that deserve some mention
1- Guy Ritchie is J.Silver's choice to direct Sgt.Rock from DC comics.

2-Kick Ass comic is in pre-production already.

3-Cap's shield makes a cameo in IronMan

4-Another site is reporting that Marvel will invest 150 to 300mil on Thor and it will be the most "fantastic" Marvel adaptation to date and Pitt is the name being tossed around for the role.

5-"Hancock" is doing reshoots in NY. Usually bad news this late in the game. The film has failed to get a pg13 rating two times and isn't testing well so far.

6-Here is a link for some semi-nude shots of Megan Fox...http://www.wwtdd.com/post.phtml?pk=6142

7-Transformers 2 is rumored to be heading for the 3D treatment

8-Point Break is gettingb a sequel, but no word if Keanu will be part of it.

9-The one that's eating at me the most, this is just a rumor, but some sites are saying that Matt McConaughey is being considered for Captain America
