Jackson's got game for KING KONG
There's going to be a KING KONG video game! By Patrick Sauriol

While we already know that Peter Jackson's next project will be a remake of Universal's
KING KONG, what we didn't know was that there would be a video game based on the new movie. That fact was revealed last weekend in an article appearing in the
New York Times Magazine about the growing relationship between movie studios and video game companies.
Two startling items were said in the
Times story. First, the
KING KONG video game will be released by Ubisoft. This is unusual because Universal Pictures, the studio making and releasing Jackson's
KONG, has its own internal games division, Vivendi Universal Games. This may be due to the fallout after last year's sale of Universal's movie division to General Electric who did not pick up VU Games.
The second interesting item in the story was the pronouncement that Jackson could stand to make more money from the sale of
KING KONG video games than from making the movie. That's an amazing piece of supposition to make considering that the
LORD OF THE RINGS director is guaranteed to get a $20 million dollar paycheck and a piece of the profits from
KING KONG. Nevertheless, if the
KONG video game is as successful as Electronic Arts'
LORD OF THE RINGS video games, it's conceivable big bucks could be made.
