I thought Lance Henrikson was originally cast as The Terminator, but Arnold (cast as Reese) wanted the role instead, so they gave it to him. But I have heard the OJ Simpson angle before too, so maybe that came before or after Lance. I've always thought that the idea of an older Arnold playing a T-800 that's been out in the field for a long time, and its flesh has aged, would be cool. But like you I'm not a fan of the "Arnold plays the human who inspired the Model 101" idea, but it's probably what they'll go with because cool ideas tend to get ignored in favour of stupidity. Sorry, I'm cynical :P

SmokingFrog - Yeah, I hope the "Good Idea Fairy" (Google the military history fo that term), stays far away from this movie.  I have high hopes that since Arnold is a linchpin in the process to ensure lots of $$ being made, aand he has always angled for exposure that puts him in the driver's seat, I think he'd go more towards the "aging Terminator."  I've seen the Red Band trailer for "Sabotage" and I could see him still being a very imposing presence on screen.  Yes, I forgot tto mention the Lance Henrikson side, thanks for the mix on that as well!

I believe there was a Terminator novel that dealt with Sarah and John Connor running into a mercenary in South America that looked just like the Model 101, and it was either implied or explicit that he ended up being the basis Skynet used for the skin. So hopefully they leave that one alone now as far as the movies go!!

BlueDac, I don't think they were trying to captialize on what little fame Yelchin had from the Star Trek reboot. The movies were released about a month apart.

..because he was SO awesome in "A Good Day To Die Hard".  There are SO many great properties out there that could be rebooted. Why mess with this one? Let it be.

Suggestions: a reboot of "The Beastmaster", only keeping it a sci-fi story as originally written by Andre Norton.

Sure it's really old, but I think a remake of "Forbidden Planet" could be terrific.

How about redoing "Battle Beyond the Stars"? Basically a sci-fi version of "Seven Samurai" or "The Magnificent Seven"?

The Shadow and yes, even a Seth-Rogen-free Green Hornet could also have possibilities. Just thinking out loud
