James Cameron finds Jesus?

According to various reliable sources and news publications, James Cameron and Simcha Jacobovici have produced a documentary which claims to have found the remains of Jesus of Nazareth.

They claim to have put together DNA and archaeological evidence, as well as evidence found in biblical studies proving the coffins belong to Jesus and his family.  Reports say the documentary also shows Jesus to have fathered a son.

Cameron has scheduled a press conference for today (Monday), in New York, where he plans to reveal the coffin and 90 minute documentary.

KJ's Take:  Tom Cruise move on over, we have a new head wacko in town.  Can anyone think of a quicker way to ruin your career as one of the great filmmakers than challenging Christianity to a fight?  I can't.  Tom Cruise jumped on a couch, Cameron holds a press conference to say Jesus never ascended into heaven ... I think Cameron wins.

This news is still breaking, so expect a lot more to break on this topic later today.  Maybe added information will make Cameron seem less wacko, but somehow I doubt it.  What exactly does he plan to do with this DNA anyways?  What does he plan to compare it to?  Seriously, this is just mind boggling.

Well, this explains a lot.... The reason Cameron has had such a low profile over the last few years is obviously because he was working on this gem.... The worst part is that if this is on the level and he really is moving forward on this, this will be all we can talk about or see on the news for like the next six weeks... probably longer..... SAVE ME JEBUS!!!

Look, if the jews did not kill our man Mel Gibsons career then I don't think the christians will be able to kill Camerons either, of course the christians can be alot more ruthless so we will see...I'm athiast so I don't give a rats ass either way and am looking forward to this with the hopes that it is all true and that jesus was a fraud that the christians have been covering up for a long, long time and that he did have children or a child and was nothing special beyond any other ordinary man...

SAVE ME JEBUS!!!

LOL!

I view Cameron's discovery as hogwash. DNA evidence? I don't think so.

It's a rather interesting endeavor on his part to try to thwart the belief that Jesus was resurrected and ascended to heaven with his body (though I have met enough Christians that believe that Jesus surpassed the need for that said body and has become a higher spiritual form).

Ah well.

Personally, I love religious documentaries. I would very much to hear about Cameron's investigations. I hope he is strong enough to bear the wrath of the Religious Right. They seem to leave most documentaries alone because they tend to fly under the radar and air on the Biography and History channels, which the vast majority don't watch. However, with a big name like Cameron releasing a documentary which refutes the Church's teachings, and calling a press conference to boot, you can bet he'll be in for a Holy Shitstorm.

First off the title to this article is hilarious because I thought Cameron was just announcing that he is a "Born Again". But leave it to "Mr. Titanic" to have actually found Jesus.

Hey, I`m all for new discoveries and religious documentaries, but why Cameron? Whether this is true or not, his rep is going to take a big hit. Mel Gibson made a move depicting jewish people as kind of evil. Well at least the ones back then, but Cameron is trying to stand in the face of a few thousand years of religious doctrine. Believe me, his rep will take a hit. Even if it is true, do you really think Christians are going to take it seriously? He could have all the evidence to support him in the world. It wouldn`t make a lick of difference because people want to believe no mater what. Even in the face of absolute factual scientific proof. I think its a waste of time. The media will label him a quack and whatever truth he might have will just get buried in all the bruhaha and the king of the world will be dethroned.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this story unfolds. Obviously, religions that are based on Christ's resurrection will denounce this, because if it would be true, their religion's foundation would be in jeapardy. How could they have DNA proof? What do they have to base it on? This is an interesting story, and the media frenzy will probably guarantee the documentary will be seen by a great many people, but ultimately won't change Christ's established mythology.

The book Templar Legacy was a great read and deals with the subject of what could happen if it was revealed that Christ wasn't the son of God who was crucified and resurrected. If you like historical mysteries, I recommend it; thought it was head and shoulders better than Divinci Code.

Is it just me, or do I smell publicity stunt? Either way, this is hogwash. Is it a coincidence that he would announce this discovery right before he begins his new film? Think about it. It is so over the top silly.

Forget Cameron, it's the other guy - Simcha Jacobovici - who raises flags. The guy makes his living by producing documentaries and books on controversial bible-related topics backed up by questionable science.

For instance, remember the "James, Brother of Jesus" ossuary (bone box) that was in the headlines a couple years ago? Jacobovici sold a documentary about it to the Discovery Channel. The ossuary itself is highly suspect, and the guy who claimed to have purchased the ossuary from an unknown Palestinian merchant was later busted for selling archeological forgeries. I see that Jacobovici has two upcoming books on Amazon about the "Jesus Tomb." He's going to line his wallet some more, and somehow he's managed to bring Cameron along to add some sort of gravitas to the project. This is their second project together - Cameron narrated Jacobovici's recent documentary on the plagues described in The Exodus, which hypothosized scientific explanations behind them.

Sounds like a stunt to me. I agree w/ KJ, what good does DNA do if you don't have a basis for comparison? Does he find a coffin with a birth certificate and numbered certificate of authenticity?

People are so eager these days to put Jesus' life into question? As a Christian I believe what I believe on the basis of faith, not scientific evidence, although there is plenty out there confirming Biblical facts. If this could be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt then maybe I'd give it some thought, but there is no way this can be proven 100% true so it won't change anyone's beliefs. The "evidence" is all very speculative, based on the names on the ossuaries that were found. And this tomb was dug up in the 70's, why is this all coming out only now? I agree with snallygaster's comments. This guy just wants to make some money and it seems that creating Christian controversy is a pretty good way to do it these days.
