Actor James Marsters (best known to genre fans as "Spike") is returning to the role he began in season 5 of SMALLVILLE, says Kristin at EOnline. The man who filled the shoes of Dr. Milton Fine aka "Brainiac" will be returning for a 4-episode stint in this 7th season of the CW show. Here's what the Kristin had to say on the subject..

We last saw Marsters's character, Dr. Milton Fine (aka Brainiac), in Smallville's fifth season finale.

While it's unclear exactly how James is returning, I can tell you he's reprising the exact same character, he's returning to set very soon and his episodes begin airing in January.

SMALLVILLE returns to the CW this Thursday night.

I am pumped. I still really like this show not as much as my wife does because Heroes and 24 have surpassed it in terms of being off the charts awesome, but it is still a good show. Is it exactly what I want it to be? Not always, but it is pretty high quality especially last year and by the way my wife will watch it with me. Most of the scifi I watch I have to watch by myself so I am glad there is at least one scifi show my wife and I can watch together. Now if I could only get her to watch Firefly with me.

I never liked him as an actor, and he RUINED Lex Luthor in "Superman; Doomsday". However I enjoyed his turn as Brainiac - now if they can paint him green.

I always enjoyed this show - I'm biased because Supes hass been my favorite comic since I was old enough to read.

Mckracken...BrainIAC was 'destroyed' in the season 5 finale. But as he's an AI construct, it doesn't seem surprising that he can come back. I'm betting there was a bit of him in the now-unearthed ship in which Kara arrived.

nrollins - i agree thats the easiest way to bring him back -- i saw this on yahoo yesterday and posted it in the blogs

Brainiac does not need to be green.

Sad that this is another example of why smallville is a pile of shit for dawsons Creek fans. How original rip off TERMINATOR and call it brainiac. I guess people wouldnt understand a silver robot terrorizing shitville. Or did the network figure they need another pretty boy to play a cyborg because they are to cheap to design a good cyborg model?
