Rodriguez Mum On DEADPOOL

Speaking of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Hero Complex tried to get the goods on filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and pin him down on the question of whether or not he's doing Fox's Deadpool movie with Ryan Reynolds.

"It’s a great script and a great property," an Rodriguez said of the Reese and Wernick screenplay.

However, when asked what his follow up to Machete would be, Rodriguez would only say that he's, "just working everything out." Several films are vying for his attention including Sin City 2, Nervecracker or even another Spy Kids.

Of course, for 20th Century Fox, the Deadpool clock is ticking and they're going to have to jump when Reynolds has an opening in his dance card, so waiting around for Rodriguez to commit may not be an option.

G.I.JOE 2 and NINJA TURTLES Updates In Leaked Memo

The Wrap has published what is alleged to be an internal email from within Paramount Pictures detailing their development slate. While the memo touches on several dozen projects, there are two of specific interest for this column.

However, before we get into details, it should be noted that a source a Paramount denies the authenticity of the email, telling The Wrap, "This is not a Paramount document. It has some correct information and some inaccurrate information."

G.I.Joe 2 is listed on the memo as being a "Priority/On Deck" project. It comes with the note "happy w/The Reese & Wernick draft. Good chance that Sommers may direct the sequel after all."

The note refers to Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and director Stephen Sommers, of course.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is further down the food chain and ranked in the "Other/Development" category. It carries a less favorable note "Fusco draft not great; looking for another writer to come on this quickly as its a huge Viacom property."

Fusco would be John Fusco, writer of such middling films as The Forbidden Kingdom and Hidalgo.

MISS Gets Director

The filmed adaptation of the Humanoids Graphic novel Miss: Better Living Through Crime now has a director according to Heat Vision. Seith Mann, who has stood behind the camera for episodes of The Wire and Fringe will write and direct the feature for Vigilante Entertainment. Hicham Benkirane is producing for Vigilante Entertainment. Spike Lee is executive producing.

The movie is a 1920s period piece set in New York. It involves, "Nola, a white femme fatale who grew up an impoverished orphan, and stylin’ Slim, a smooth-talking Harlem pimp with gambling troubles. The unlikely interracial pair partner as murderers-for-hire."

The book was published in 2002 from the creative team of Philippe Thirault,  Marc Riou and Mark Vigouroux.

Less than a year ago it was announced that Antoine Fuqua would direct the film from a script by John Ridley.

Hiddleston Talks Jotunheim and THOR

Actor Tom Hiddleston told MTV Splash Page that one of the highlights of playing Loki in Marvel's Thor movie was stepping out onto the land of the Frost Giants.

"I actually loved Jotunheim," Hiddleston told MTV. "It was the first set we were on. Jotunheim is where the Frost Giants live, who are the mortal enemies of Asgardians. It's basically a planet that is made of ice. If you can picture any alpine region like the French Alps or the Rockies or something — it's kind of like that on acid, it's just bigger and spikier and I loved all that. They had really realistic ice flows and snow and mountains and dripping water."

It's not all about the scenery though. The actor also said that it was the biggest action segment for his character as well.

Will Del Toro End HELLBOY?

MTV Splash Page asked filmmaker Guillermo del Tor if, now that he's not doing The Hobbit, might he turn his attention to Hellboy 3.

The director admitted some ambivalence about capping his trilogy.

"I would love to do it," del Toro told MTV. "But the heartbreak for me is that I know how it ends and I don't know if I want to see that ending. But I would love to do it."

Indeed, MTV cites an earlier interview with creator Mike Mignola who is not keen on the idea of seeing the big, red demon-hunting demon's story come to an end on screen while he has fifteen years worth of comic book stories to tell.

Del Toro also joked that there's another roadblock to doing a third movie. "I had dinner with [leading man Ron Perlman] last night. He said 'six hours [in the makeup chair], what do you want?' And he's doing 'Sons of Anarchy' without makeup. He's spoiled! He likes to be the big cheese without the makeup session," del Toro said.

CAPTAIN AMERICA Set Report, Joss Report

Filmmaker Joss Whedon confirmed for Earth's Mightiest that he has lent some polish to the script for Captain America: The First Avenger.

"The structure of the [script] was really tight and I loved it, but there were a couple of opportunities to find [Steve Rogers'] voice a little bit — and some of the other characters — and make the connections so that you understood exactly why he wanted to be who he wanted to be. And progressing through the script to flesh it out a little bit," Whedon explained.

Of course, production on the movie is underway in England with filming on the USO scenes happening at Bourne Woods in Farnham, Surrey. The area has served as a location for numerous films such as Gladiator, Children of Men and The Wolfman to name a few. Naturally with a military camp erected and Chris Evans walking around in the Cap costume (version 1.0) some fans have taken a curious look at things.

The Media Room published a small set of photos from the shoot as well as a nice account of their brush with the film's less-than-intimidating security detail.

Then HeyUGuys.co.uk published an even bigger array of photos and drops a video segment as well.USO set from CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER (photo from HeyUGuys.co.uk)

January Jones Tops Latest Wave of X-MEN Casting

Whew! The X-Men: First Class cast-o-rama is getting hard to track.

Deadline.com reports this week that actress January Jones has actually signed a deal to play Emma Frost in the movie.

What the what?

It was as recent as June that Deadline reported that She's Out of My League actress Alice Eve was in negotiations for the part. Apparently those talks never reached fruition. We love Jones as the the refined, repressed and put-upon Betty Draper on AMC's Mad Men so we're looking forward to seeing her cut loose as the mutant bad girl.

Deadline has also pegged Zoe Kravitz (daughter of Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet) as being cast as Angel in the movie. Of course, if we're talking the comic book First Class the Angel in question would be rich white boy Warren Worthington. But since this is the movie version and since director Matthew Vaughn seems to be keep to dig into some obscure characters, we're guessing this is Angel Salvadore, a young mutant girl introduced during Grant Morrison's run, who was also born with wings (not to mention the ability to generate sonic bursts with them).

Also new to the cast is Bill Milner (Son of Rambow) as young Magneto and Morgan Lily (2012) as "young raven" (who we have to figure is actually young Raven Darkholm aka Mystique). Actors Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence would be playing the adult versions of those characters.

Amazingly, cameras are rolling on X-Men: First Class next week in London! So, uh, where are Jean and Scott?

What do you think, Maniacs? Do we like the way FIRST CLASS is being called into session? Post your comments below...

There really isn't anything to the Cap photos...unless you didn't know it was set in WW2.

I don't understand the worry of Hellboy...does Del Toro really think he could get another 2 or 3 movies out of it?  Even though its made money these movies are not a smash hit.  The way he was talking at one point it sounded like it would be a struggle to get the budget he would want for a 3rd one.  I would like to see it though.

redvector 8/18/2010 6:44:09 AM

If there is another Hellboy which I doubt, it will probably be with a whole new crew. Del Toro is too busy and Ron Perlman is getting too old and tired of all that make up.

Calibur454 8/18/2010 7:01:20 AM

Hellboy- all good things come to an end but there is always the reboot that hollywood will do after another couple of years

@redvector- Perlman has been quoted a time or too- ( I cant remember where) that he loved working on hellboy- and if you really think he is that washed up why dont you try watching Sons Of Anarchy. Thats what he has been doing for the past several years now with season 3 starting up in september.

Captain America- I'm with Hobbs on this nothin to these photos. It reminds of the pirates 4 scoop mania had on here not long ago saying it had a slew of pictures from the set but it was really just one or two pictures taken half a dozen ways. (I am excited for Pirates 4 so please no hating :P)

wessmith1966 8/18/2010 7:51:21 AM

How big of a cast is the X-Men movie going to have? I think January Jones will be an excellent Emma Frost. I still don't understand where the movie's going, but I do look forward to the first trailer. I'm not expecting a good movie, this is a Fox comic book movie after all, but I am hopeful.

GI Joe 2...really? Wasn't one enough? It was a fun throwaway movie. Of course, I wouldn't mind seeing Rachel Nichols as Scarlett again! ha ha

I don't need a Deadpool movie. I guess my question is...He's the "merc wih a mouth," but umm, didn't his mouth get removed in the mediocre Wolverine? I really don't expect this movie to get made, kind of like the Magneto movie.

Can't wait for Thor and Captain America. This summer might have been a little disappointing for genre fans, but next summer should be a great ride!

ElBaz13 8/18/2010 7:58:39 AM

Keep going Fox. You still have more roles to cast. Let's not forget the following:

Dazzler, Longshot, The New Mutants, Marrow, Maggot, The Morlocks, Onyxx, Armor, Pixie, Husk, Chamber.

I sense an epic fail on this one considering they are staying in the movie continuity. Too bad. I like McAvoy and Fassbender.

Hobbs 8/18/2010 8:18:55 AM

wes, do you really think this has been a disappointing summer for genre?

IM2, A-Team, Toy Story, Shrek, Salt, Expendables, Inception, Predators, Scott Pilgrim, Last Airbender, Prince of Persia, Sorcerrers Apprentice, Twilight, Piranha 3D.

Now I admit I have no desire to see Twilight, Apprentice, Airbender, and Prince but there's been a good selection to choose from.  I agree the summer started out a little slow but turned out to be 100 times better than last summer for genre. At least in my opinion.

Jetro 8/18/2010 8:34:54 AM

They really need to go back to the original version of Turtles, dark and gritty, much like how the first movie was done in line with the comics.  Unfortunately the Turtles brand has been mutated so much that it's current state cannot be compared to the comics nor do I see them returning Turtles back to it's roots as it's seen too much of a money maker in retail...

violator14 8/18/2010 8:41:32 AM

Wessmith-Where have u been man? It's been repeated that this Deadpool movie will have nothing to do with the abomination we saw in the Wolverine film........ BTW can someone please send me Robert Rodriguez's address so i can gather a crew, throw on some ski masks, and throw him down by the collar in the bathroom (Project Mayhem style) and tell him "You are going to make a Deadpool movie.... DO.NOT.FUK.WITH.US"    this is the best project on your plate u F!

GI. JOE-at the very least, please get rid of those STUPID lips on Snake Eyes and fix Cobra Commander's freaking mask/helmet! That pic we saw at Comic-Con of Cobra Commander was absolutely perfect compared to the crap we saw in the movie..... UUUGGHHH why do these directors keep ripping up our characters!?!?!

X-Men- Exhausted complaining about this crap. Im at a point where im just gonna sit back and watch this Frankentstein of a movie grow before my eyes with contempt and sadness, chin in my hand, while fiddling with a stick on the dirt....   =T

Calibur454 8/18/2010 9:43:28 AM

@wessmith- I have been complaining about the large cast of xmen for months now I have even asked maniacs how long they think the movie will be with so many charachters and if they think it will be any good or not because of it.

@violator- I agree deapool would be a good movie and RR is stupid for not doing this now instead of a crap fest that will be spy kids 4 but dont forget about sin city 2
