According to Production Weekly, Jason Bateman is in negotiations to star opposite Will Smith and Charlize Theron in the upcoming superhero drama Tonight, He Comes.

The film centers on Smith's character, a down-and-out superhero who has a bad image with the public because he causes a lot of collateral damage while he solves crimes not to mention that he's an alcoholic.

Bateman would play a corporate public relations consultant, who, after being rescued by Smith, tries to repay him by revamping his image. While Bateman is trying to repair Smith's reputation, the superhero is secretly romancing Bateman's wife (Theron).

I can't wait for this film AND the porno that it is bound to spawn.

Hmm, a Will Smith movie that sounds promising? Not only does a semi-original premise (for film, at least) help out that I want to actually see this film but the fact that Jason Bateman is also in it makes me kind of anticipate it.

Very cool. Over the years, I used to make fun of Will Smith ALOT but as time has passed, I have come to respect his choices as an actor. I won't be buying his CDs anytime soon however he is going to be having a long, prosperous career. Go drunk superhero, GO!!!

Great concept, sounds like a superhero version of "Bad Santa."

Horrible title though. Bad porn jokes aside, it really doesn't make the movie sound interesting, or even hint at what the movie is about. If I had only heard the title, I would think this is going to be a cheap horror movie.

This is a clever idea. Since the superhero film has become a regular movie genre, people can now play with the idea, like My Super Ex-Girlfriend (not a great flick). I wonder if the humor in this movie will be subtle or pretty broad. The director for this one is Peter Berg who did the Rock's The Rundown. I liked the style of that one.

This movie is sounding better with each piece of info that comes out. I agree, though - bad title. Will probably change as it gets closer and the studio gets more involved.

Also might make more sense when we either get more information or see the flick. To me it sounds like what they might call the remake of "Something Wicked This Way Comes". That's what my bet on what it was going to be about when I saw it for the first time or a movie similiar to it. It also sounds like the sequel to "The Passion of the Christ".

I too agree with many here. Will Smith -- ups and downs aside -- is a good actor and movie star, so I'm looking forward to this.

the whole "Tonight, he comes" title has GOT to be a temp title. it just has to be (I'm thinking of how they labeled Superman Returns "Red Sun", or going back for some, the code name for Return of the Jedi was "Blue Harvest"). they probably don't want to reveal the true name -- cause it's the name of the character, or it's the actual premise of the movie (in the title).

IF that's the title, it sorta reminds me of the animated series The TICK when it was at it's best. if that's what they're going for, then cool. again, the thought of broad over subtle comedy comes to question and... y'know, that's just real tricky stuff in the wrong hands.

but that's where the director can take charge, and I'm hopeful that Peter Berg will handle it.

and if it's pure "drama" then that's cool too. it'll be interesting seeing them do a non-major, original superhero story, that doesn't have comedy and it's main backbone.

but you know, casting and stuff, kinda says it won't be entirely drama. Bateman is damned funny, Smith can be funny, and of course Theron is quite versitle. I will remain hopeful. we'll see.

anybody got clues, links, or anything on the script or the name of Smith's superhero character?

And I see the studio's shooting for a July 2nd release...4th of July weekend is Big Willy's weekend.

I see it's being written by Vince Gilligan, who was a producer and writer behind the X-Files and (even better) The Lone Gunmen. The director (Peter Berg) also did "Friday Night Lights" which bodes well in my book.

And what would summer be without a Will Smith movie over the Fourth of July weekend? (Answer: a lot like this past summer). Obviously, Columbia is positioning this as one of the "tentpole" movies of the summer.
