Stuntman Derek Mears---who did work on the Pirate films, Hills Have Eyes 2 and most recently Indy IV---is reportedly set to play Jason Voorhees in the upcoming revision of the horror icon's origins. Marcus Nispel is directing Friday the 13th, based on a screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Derek will be joining Jared Padalecki ("Supernatural"), who's also starring in the film.

Friday the 13th will hit theaters Friday, February 13, 2009.

Don't care who plays Jason... just give us big titties, blood, and an R-rating.

I was hoping Kane Hodder would get the role. Is this going to be another PG-13 unscary horror movie?

Kane was great as the more Bulkier Jason. Hence later Jason's when they really gave him his power.

I like the Jason from Friday Part 2. He was a lil more realistic and believable . I hope they go that root.

Of course, its going to PG-13 unscary horror movie. You want scary, then wait for the Unrated DVD. that's the trend now.

I'm still trying to figure out how they are casting this movie the way they are. In the first movie the killer was his mother and he didnt apear until his arm came out of the lake at the end. If this is a remake they made a mistake or if its an origin story shouldnt jason be a kid who eventuallay gets tossed in a lake?

My understanding, which may be way off base, is that this is part of Part I and part of Part II but mostly filling in what happened between the two.
I wonder if it will take place in the early 80's or if they are "updating it" to modern times.
