The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed what we told you two weeks ago for the FRIDAY THE 13TH remake. Scribes Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (the same duo behind Jason vs. Freddy-2003) have been chosen by New Line and Platinum Dunes to rewrite the script for this remake. These writers were brought on board after the studio rejected a previous draft featuring the mother of Jason, a script draft more accurately written in context to the original film. The studio threw that one out because they wanted Jason at his full size with a mask in the remake, something that didn't take place in the original series until the 3rd film.

The new writers will insure the remake will have Jason fully grown, with a mask, killing in the setting of Crystal Lake. The hope is still to get this project filmed before the impending June 2008 strike.

Yeah, word. Hello, if the story is absolutely, totally different then uhmm... not a remake. Unless they are remaking Friday the 13th part 3.

Or remaking 1-3 in one movie >.>

Yes, that's exactly what I 'm thinking, guys.

If New Line wants a new movie with Jason killing people in Crystal Lake, why not just go ahead with a sequel?

It certainly doesn't sound like a "remake" to me either..I feel some pity for the writer whose original screenplay was rejected. He was hired to write a script on a Friday the 13th remake. He wrote it. He turned it in. New Line rejects it because there's no Jason..I'm curious what the screenplay writer thought on that one..

I imagine they keep calling this a remake because they want to start the character over from the beginning but even so, just call it a "reimagining" of the character's origins..

I would much rather see another Nightmare on Elm Street movie. I don't see all the news that comes out, but it seems like New Line won't even talk about that until this Friday the 13th movie is done. Once upon a time there was talk of a Nightmare prequel that sounded very interesting.

One of the great parts of the original Friday the 13th was the reveal that it was a woman who was crazier than a shithouse rat doing the killing. Plus, when Jason came out of the water at the end it really got me...I jumped! Is this going to be like Zombie's Halloween? Give Jason a little back story so the producers can say "Look, we did something new!" and then quickly make him the iconic killer that arrived in Part 3 of the original series. Maybe in the new version, it's the mom who dies and Jason spends his life killing campers for revenge and placing the heads of his victims on an altar where his mom's rotting corpse lays. Whatever. As much as I love the Friday the 13th movies and horror in general, I don't have much interest in seeing this until it hits HBO. One of the things I liked about the original Halloween and Friday the 13th movies was that no one knew why Michael Myers went apeshit or how Jason returned from the grave. They just did; they were absurd, supernatural killing machines and that was fun. Zombie took the mystery out of Michael, and I have a feeling there will be no mystery left in Jason after this "reimagining." Oh well, I can still watch the original series on DVD.

This is one time I can say this AIN'T NO REMAKE!!! It's more like a "re-envisioning", ala, Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes. And I agree, again, it's gonna be sh#t!!! Friday the 13th has been sh#t since 3. Laughable!!!

With remakes being the hot item right now we should have known that "Zombie's Halloween" would cause a barrage of horror icon remakes.
Sure the production value always looks much better, but it always seems to just crap all over the original creation.
It's amazing some of the decisions that come out of La La Land! You would think there would be at least one person who would read posts like these and think...'huh? Are we making dumb choices?'
Though I guess if people keep throwing their money at them...they'll keep turning them out.

I think they should call movies like this a reboot. I mean, it's not a remake and not really a reimagining given the changes that are being made...
