According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jason Statham is in negotiations to star in the upcoming futuristic thriller, Death Race.

The film is a remake of the 1975 film, Death Race 2000, which was set in a dystopian America in which the president presides over an ultraviolent road race from New York to Los Angeles. One of the ways that drivers score points is by mowing down innocent bystanders using their heavily armed cars.

Paul W.S. Anderson is writing and directing the remake for a late summer start to production.  Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner are producing.

#1 lol....
This had Jason written all over it.... now the question is will it cool popcorn action.... or crappy forced action.... only time will tell...

Great, it only makes this a worse film. I've had the unfortunate opportunity to read the script for this. I wish I didn't.

Oh and by the way Cruise/Wagner haven't been attache to this for a very , very long time.

I like jason Statham, but I can only takes so many movies of him looking stone faced behind the wheel during a car chase. While he doesn't make very good movies, I think Anderson makes fun popcorn movies, so I'll probably see this one just for fun.

What would really make this hilarious, is if he is playin the decendent of the Transporter Character...

OK, got to say it...I like Statham. Is he a great actor? No, but he is serviceable and maybe, in the right role, a little better than that. Something about him in the sharp dressed, always cool role just works for me(Transporter, Snatch). This movie screams for a remake, but I think I would rather see a sequel with Stallone and Carradine back in some role as their original characters. This is a pretty simple premise to this movie, and I'm sorry to hear from masterchief that it appears to be getting scrambled up.

I hated "The Transporter", but that's probably because I had never seen it, and bought it in a 2 pack with "The Boondock Saints", so my expectations were probably too high. However, I like Statham in "Snatch", "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels", and "Mean Machine". I like him better that most other action stars.

I think Statham is one of the best action stars working today. I've enjoyed most of the films I have seen him in, Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Both Transporter films, and I even half liked Crank. The problems I have with his films have nothing to do with his performances and more to do with the script and pacing which is far from his fault. The problem I have with this film is Paul W.S. Anderson, I just don't trust his films. He has done some decent films but I think all of the problems with his films lie with him. Maybe they should get Paul Thomas Anderson, that would be interesting...

Who cares if Statham is in it or not,I will go see it for this one reason alone---->One of the ways that drivers score points is by mowing down innocent bystanders using their heavily armed cars. Ya baby, run some asses over...I hope they have a good combination of Comical runovers and serious bloody runovers, either way I'm looking forward to seeing someone get RUN the fuck OVER!!
