Peter Benchley's JAWS.
Author Peter Benchley passed away on Sunday at the age of 65. He was probably best known for writing the novel JAWS
Benchley's 1974 novel was turned into the summer blockbuster of 1975 by then new director Steven Spielberg. The film caused millions to become afraid of swimming in the ocean.
Though he was pleased with the outcome of the film, he "kept telling people the book was fiction, it was a novel, and that he no more took responsibility for the fear of sharks than Mario Puzo took responsibility for the Mafia," reports his wife Wendy Benchley.
Peter Benchley also wrote such novels as "Peter Benchley's Creature", "Beast", "White Shark", and "The Deep".
