Jena Malone for Catching Fire?

For the role of...

Actress Jena Malone (Sucker Punch) is in the running for the pivotal role of strong-willed tribute Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, EW is reporting.

The character is described in author Suzanne Collins’ bestseller as possessing “a wicked ability to murder,” winning her Hunger Games by pretending to be weak and then picking off the other tributes. One open question about the character is whether director Francis Lawrence will keep Johanna’s introduction from the book, in which she first meets heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) naked — save for her green slippers.

Malone began her acting career at 12 years old in the acclaimed Showtime movie Bastard out of Carolina and as a young Jodie Foster in the sci-fi drama Contact. She most recently appeared in History’s miniseries Hatfields & McCoys.

EW also confirmed that, despite an earlier report, Mia Wasikowska has not been approached for the role of Johanna Mason, nor would be available to shoot the film.

Evey time I hear her name I think 'Dharma and Greg?' and wonder if she actually still has a career...

Then I realise it's not the same person and chuckle to myself at my gross stupidity.

Interesting.  I like her.  I pictured Johanna as being a bit older though.

The other intesting Catching Fire casting note is Kevin Nash (yes that Kevin Nash) is in talks to play Brutus, the tribute from District 2.

That would be cool to see Kevin Nash.

Spoilers for those who have not read the books

I love the concept of the tributes of the past competing like an all-star game. When I read the books, I was trying to visualize some of these older actors. As for Kevin Nash, I read the article. Nash said he’s in talks for a role in the next installment of The Hunger Games. “I just pray it’s recurring, that he doesn’t get killed,” Nash said. LOL! Better get to reading the book before signing up to play Brutus Kevin! :)

She looks ok but not who I would've picked. Alot of people have suggested Naya Rivera and I agree with them, plus it'd be nice to see them add some color to the actors and not just have black and white actors.

She was in Donnie Darko!

I honestly thought of Nikki Reed playing Johanna while I was reading the book.

I'm sure Ms. Malone is sitting at her home biting her nails at the possibility of actually being in a hit movie for the first time in her 20 year career but for the love of god NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

She was great in the super awesome Sucker Punch and she was awesome in The Messenger as well. Damn good actress but I couldn't give a rat's ass about this franchise so it doesn't matter to me

She was good in Sucker Punch and The Messenger; however, watching Sucker Punch was like someone hooking up a vacuum to my brain and sucking out what little IQ I had before the movie started.  I'll never get those 2 hours back and you can never unsee that abomination.
