Jet Li joins "Mummy 3"

According to a Mania.com scooper, Jet Li is in negotiations to join the upcoming Universal sequel to The Mummy and The Mummy 2.  We are also happy to announce that the title for the upcoming film is tentatively set as Mummy: Curse of the Dragon.

The news comes to me from one of my most respected scoopers and they revealed the intricate details of how and why they were privied to this information.  Bad news for you is that they also swore me to secrecy, so you are just going to have to trust me.

The plot for the film, which is being kept under wraps for the most part, seems to involve Brendan Fraiser's character, his son, and a brand new Mummy (Li?).  Rachel Weisz is also expected to reprise her role.

Rob Cohen is directing the film for the studio which is aiming for a 2008 release.

KJ's Take:  Great news for the film if true.  Whether Li is playing the mummy or another character, his presence is a bonus to any film.  I also like the title, but that may be because I'm a sucker for the word Dragon.

Okay if Jet Li is the Mummy in the next unnecessary sequel what will he bring to the character? My hope is that he will bring the same amount of menace as he did in Lethal weapon 4. If so, this might be a very good casting choice.

Based on the last things I heard about this film, I figured it was on a fast track to direct to DVD. Now I think it might have a chance. I really enjoyed the first film, the second one didn't impress me too much (The Rock as that scorpion thing looked kind of funny.). Hopefully a strong story will help the decent cast.

The movie still sounds like rehashed crap, but it sounds much better than that rumour about it being a redone of Mummy 1 and 2.

Sounds good to me. I like Jet.
I'll probably give this a chance.

Well, Jet Li one of Tinsel Town's latest hot property. Besides, I was wondering if there would be a third installment of the Mummy. The first Mummy movie rocked! However, I agree with Jon41380...The second film was good but sort of slow in a "Phantom Menace" kind of way, (my apologies if I offend the Star Wars fans). Let's hope Mummy 3 will revive the franchise.

Didn't Jet Li retire from acting? Or was that just from martial arts movies?

exfan • Feb 05, 2007, 12:45am •
actually mortellan, what he said was Fearless was his last Pure martial art movie, now he will do movies with character includ martial art skill but not only based on it. I was gonna give this a chance regardless... I loved both Mummies, popcorn fun, but Jet Li equals some serious credability... I'm down.
