Jim Carrey and Steve Carell have both signed on to voice characters in the upcoming Dr. Seuss CGI animated feature film, Horton Hears a Who, for 20th Century Fox.

Carrey will voice Horton while Carell voces the mayor of Who-ville.

The film will center on an imaginative elephant who hears a cry for help coming from a tiny speck of dust floating through the air. Suspecting that there might be life on that speck and despite a surrounding community that thinks he has lost his mind, Horton is determined to help.

I wasn't looking forward to this when it was first announced, especially after the Cat in the Hat, but with both Carrey and Carell, this could be worth bringing my kids to see.

Jim needs a decent hit, this wont be it.

I hope the animation does justice to Seuss's work. The live action approach of The Grinch and The Cat in the Hat just didn't work for me.

Are you saying that Hollywood should not even adapt books because they aren't truly original stories?

Tell ya what... If your tired of Hollywood telling the same story over and over again, Why don't YOU come up with something original. Every time I come to this damn website its the same damn thing over and over and over again.. it's "Why do they have to do a remake?" or Why do they have to do a prequel?" or "Why the same story over and over again?" How about coming up with an original question!

20105, I don't understand the hostility towards this project. This is clearly a movie based on a known commodity (a familiar Dr. Seuss story) with well known stars. It will likely make a bundle of money for the studio, some of which may be reinvested in the prestige films or art house movies which may include some of that NEW SHIT. Like it or not, mainstream movie audiences like familiar, comfortable stories. Most want to see a movie that they can relate to, not one that requires a degree in film or literature to appreciate. These are the people buying most of the tickets and most of the DVDs. Good luck to you in pitching your scripts (I hope you've got an agent). It's a highly competitive business, and I'm sure there are a lot of wonderful, original scripts out there which will never be made. But there's no need to bash every money-making project that studios embark on. If this type of news bothers you, keep in mind that Cinescape covers sci-fi, fantasy, horror, etc - generally bigger budget movies. I'd recommend you check out a site like scriptsales.com if you want a more comprehensive look at what's selling to the studios.

I hope its short, cause when they just get crazy and add all that extra crap it just gets dumb. Like The Grinch.

20105, it's just the general nature of this board. As bigsxc2000 alluded to, it seems that everytime there's an announcement of a sequel, prequel, remake, spin-off, or any movie that sounds remotely like any other movie, the bashers come out of the woodwork.

"20105" No venom towards you, just that question in general. And I am not trying to start any static with anyone I am just pointing out the truth. Those questions gets played out day in and day out. Its like everytime the guys who run this board bring us news on Battlestar...Spiderdork starts his cut and paste campaign..and it gets old. And I would call it "Web Rage" Haha!!

Plus its like asking the guys who make porn "Why can't you guys come up with a new Money Shot?".
