Jim Lee to draw SUPERMAN

Artist says he will take over a Superman book with 100 BULLETS creator

By Patrick Sauriol     July 29, 2003

Various comic book websites are confirming the news that superstar comic book penciller Jim Lee will be drawing DC Comics' Man of Steel in SUPERMAN. Lee will draw the book for a 12-issue run commencing in March 2004. Joining him will be writer Brian Azzarello (100 BULLETS).

The confirmation by Lee on his involvement with SUPERMAN comes after a flurry of rumors indicating that major changes to DC's Superman books are coming. According to Comic Book Resources columnist Rich Johnston, the changes to the Superman books consist of Azzarello/Lee on SUPERMAN and Grant Morrison and Art Adams on ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN. UNCANNY X-MEN writer Chuck Austen, BATMAN writer Jeph Loeb and artist Pascual Ferry were also rumored to possibly be involved in the Superman shake-up.

DC Comics has not officially commented on Lee's statement that he will be drawing the adventures of Earth's adopted son. Last year Lee and Jeph Loeb took BATMAN back to the top of the sales charts with their year-long storyline "Hush". In one of the issues Lee drew an encounter between the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel.
