JJ Abrams’ Next Big Thing

I am an unabashed JJ Abrams fan, at least from Alias on anyway. He’s not infallible though. In fact I should probably qualify my fandom a little more. I am a fan of Abrams when he does sci-fi/fantasy/horror/action projects. I never cared for Felicity, Six Degrees, or What About Brian. But these shows did have their fans and many other critics liked them. I however was a fan of Alias, and am still a fan of LOST and I quite enjoyed Mission Impossible III. When word came that Abrams was to be involved with the new Star Trek film I was (and still am) giddy about it. That franchise needs to be re-energized and I think he has the writing and producing chops to do it. I just saw Transformers and while I enjoyed it mostly (about 45 minutes to long) I came out most excited about the trailer for Abrams upcoming project code-named Cloverfield. This title is just what they are currently working under, the creators are working to keep the film as secret as possible until closer to release. The film is produced by Abrams, written by a writer he worked with on LOST and directed by another filmmaker he worked with on Felicity. When the film was cast agents weren’t given any scripts, outlines, or even scenes, actors were just asked if they want to be in the movie or not. Based on the brief trailer the film looks to be a fairly epic science fiction film , that’s about all that’s known although there are plenty of rumors and guesses floating around the web. I can’t wait.

This week I’m most looking forward to the return of Eureka. This series was a surprise breakout hit for the SCIFI Channel and I hope they creators can continue the momentum they built up last season. Other than that I’m going to be watching every minute of E3 coverage I can and The World Series of Pop Culture. I’m still watching The 4400, John From Cincinnati, and On the Lot too.

Why can't Lost be on right now!!!!!!!?

FYI, CBS began running Jericho again starting last Friday. Just thought people might want to know, in case they want to give it a try. And no mention of Dr. Who on Friday night?

I was just wondering where Doctor Who was myself, snallygaster.

The two new episodes on Friday were fantastic and now no mention of the show on this week's list? What gives? Even Painkiller Jane is on the list.

Drive has been officially kicked off the schedule again. No word on whether or not Fox will air the last two episodes or hold them for a DVD release or even if there will be a DVD release.

Fox didn't air Drive? I had heard a couple months ago that Fox was going to "burn off" the remaining two episodes on the Fourth of July (one of the least-viewed TV nights of the year). Not that I'm too surprised that they would back out...

I recorded Jericho Friday night; hope to have some time soon to give it a go.
4400 is doing well, but if there was more competition right now, I'd have to dump it.
I'm also gonna give Burn Notice a shot; I was interested because The Chin is in it, but didn't get around to it; but now a friend has insisted I get on the ball, so I'm gonna record an ep and see what's what.
Rescue Me is having a fantastic season yet again. Give it a shot, if you're haven't already.

In addition to Dr Who, Scifi is running Kindred The Embraced at 07:00pm and Wolf Lake at 08:00pm. I realize that these are old cancelled shows, but Wolf Lake will be new to me anyway. A mention might not go amiss.

Nice addition, karas1.

I may catch flak for this but - I Netflixed Kindred years ago and liked it enough to buy the boxed set.

I dunno WHY I like it, I just do.

and YAY for the return of Eureka.

I remember watching Kindred in it's original shortlived run. I loved it at the time. I saw it again on Friday and it hasn't aged as badly as I had feared.

Looking forward to experiencing Wolf Lake.

For what ever reason, the SciFi Channel has delayed the broadcast of "The Kindred" until August 10th. They're showing repeats of SG1 Season 10 episodes - Family Ties on 7/13, Dominion on 7/20 and Unending on 7/20.
