The Joe team versus the Amazing Spider-Man? It's looking that way at the moment, with Deadline reporting that Paramount Pictures has pushed its untitled G.I. Joe sequel (tentatively titled G.I. Joe: Retaliation) into the weekend of June 29, 2012.
That would be the same date originally set aside for Paramount's Star Trek sequel before the studio pushed the project back into TBA limbo with whispers that Star Trek 2 could see either a December 2012 release or a summer 2013 launch.
The new Joe date also has it being unleashed into theaters just four days before Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man on July 3.
The film will star Channing Tatum (Duke), Ray Park (Snake Eyes), Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), Byung Hun-lee (Stormshadow), Elodie Yung (Jinx), Adrianne Palicki (Lady Jaye), Ray Stevenson (Firefly), RZA (Blind Master), DJ Cotrona (Flint) and Joseph Mazzello (Mouse). Production on the sequel is set to begin shortly under the directing guidance of John Chu (Step Up 3D), based on a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
