The Joe team versus the Amazing Spider-Man? It's looking that way at the moment, with Deadline reporting that Paramount Pictures has pushed its untitled G.I. Joe sequel (tentatively titled G.I. Joe: Retaliation) into the weekend of June 29, 2012.

That would be the same date originally set aside for Paramount's Star Trek sequel before the studio pushed the project back into TBA limbo with whispers that Star Trek 2 could see either a December 2012 release or a summer 2013 launch.

The new Joe date also has it being unleashed into theaters just four days before Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man on July 3.

The film will star Channing Tatum (Duke), Ray Park (Snake Eyes), Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), Byung Hun-lee (Stormshadow), Elodie Yung (Jinx), Adrianne Palicki (Lady Jaye), Ray Stevenson (Firefly), RZA (Blind Master), DJ Cotrona (Flint) and Joseph Mazzello (Mouse). Production on the sequel is set to begin shortly under the directing guidance of John Chu (Step Up 3D), based on a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

4 days before Spidey plus disgruntled fans = a very disappointing box office.

I enjoyed the first and will see this one too but I don't think I have a lot of people in my camp.

Saw parts of the first.....will NOT see the second......

You don't suppose they'd deliberately set it up against a movie that'll trash it in the box office so they'd have an excuse as to why it under performed?

They got rid of the wrong actor, put a gun to Tatum's head and threaten his life he still wouldn't be able to pull of acting.

Well, That Spider-man movie looks like a real stinker so, it might not be that bad.

violator14 7/28/2011 8:44:36 AM

haha... now all they need are characters named Dog and Kitten. Maybe one can be a Joe and one a Cobra and they can be arch-enemies.....

Hey Wise, I will probably end up seeing Spidey as well. I'm torn just like X-men FC. X-men lured me because of the good cast & concept but irritated me with the messed up continuity.

Spidey is the same. Mech shooters, romance with Gwen vs early reboot/emo Spidey.

I will probably do the same as I did for X-men. Bought a ticket for Thor and snuck in X-men.

As for Gijoe. I was happy to hear the Rock would be playing Roadblock, Ray Stevenson as Firefly. But now they cast Fumbles? I mean Mouse. Lame-o.

Grrr. I don't even want a new G.I. Joe movie. The first one was seriously underwhelming. I do like the casting of Dwayne Johnson and Adrianne Palicki... But even so, I think number 2 will be a DVD rental for me at best.
