Joel Silver says 'Wonder Woman' film is on the back burner

While the male members of 'Justice League' seem to all be spinning off into or already enjoying solo films, it appears that Hollywood has no love for Wonder Woman.

SCI FI Wire reports that producer Joel Silver recently told reporters that the 'JL' heat isn't warming his 'Wonder Woman' feature. "They're going to make the Justice League movie, and we're kind of pausing on Wonder Woman now," Silver said in a news conference while promoting 'Fred Claus'. "Let them go ahead and do that picture [first]."

"If that comes together, Wonder Woman will be a part of that story," Silver said. "And then we'll see where we go from there. But we struggled with it for a while. I hope that we can solve it and make it one day."

A 'Wonder Woman' feature has been in development with Silver Pictures since 1999 with a parade of writers, directors and actresses attaching themselves to and then exiting the project. The most recent turnover involved fan favorite Joss Whedon, who took on the property in 2005 and struggled with it until 2007.

More recently, a brouhaha emerged when gossip columnist Nikke Finke exposed alleged comments from Warner Bros. chief Jeff Robinov who purportedly said there were be no Warner Bros. films in development with a female lead. Robinov refuted the reports but Finke stood by her story and added that a 'Wonder Woman' film would only happen if 'Justice League' went gangbusters and it would be a direct spin-off of that.

Silver's statements above seem to confirm that take on things.
