Goodbye Maniacs (Article) - 2/15/2015 7:37:45 PM

Hey Maniacs, I just want to thank everyone who read and supported the Comicscape column during my tenure, and to all of you who kept Mania alive with your support over the years. Most of the Mania staff are very close (and local) friends of mine, so I am lucky to see these folks on a regular basis, but I am genuinely saddened to see the outlet for their genre passions disappear. Rock on , Maniacs. I know we will hear from you, and you will hear from us in the future, one way or another.

Great stuff, Bob!

Top 10 Big Screen Vampires (Article) - 9/18/2013 6:19:34 AM

Mmmmm... Chris Sarandon over Christopher Lee? No. Lee has more presence in a single frame. Hell, Lee should probably even get the nod over Lugosi.

And no Oldman? For shame!

Also Henriette Gerard in "Vampyre" deserves some undying love.

Credit for Duncan Regehr though.

It is indeed :)

The Lords of Salem Blu-Ray Review (Article) - 9/9/2013 11:34:35 AM

I really dug it. It's the only new horror film I've seen this year that actually takes its time. I'll take that over all the other films that give us 5 minutes of paper thin characters before the mayhem starts. LoS does build to things that don't end up panning out, but I believe that was done to highlight the idea that the conclusion was always inevitable.

It's also the most gorgeously shot horror film (or any film) of the year.

Easily Zombie's best.

Comicscape: Trinity War Finale (Article) - 8/29/2013 11:55:26 AM

@Tevil I would disagree, both Blackest Night and Flashpoint were victims of too much BS, and could have been much more rewarding if they were more focused, and spent more time on their characters, instead of continually trying to lasso the behemoth of a story they created.

However, Blackest Night started off well, before it went off the rails, and Flashpoint had a couple great tie-in books, and the very last scene was well done.

Affleck is Batman (Article) - 8/22/2013 7:54:28 PM

Cool with Affleck, not cool with Snyder.

DVD Shopping Bag: Q The Winged Serpent (Article) - 8/20/2013 9:02:01 AM

Michael Moriarty owns in that film. He's not necessarily likeable, but he's far more interesting than a stock protagonist.

True Blood: Life Matters Review (Article) - 8/14/2013 8:18:32 AM

I think the focus on Terry's death is the writers showing us how the passing of a "normal" differs from when one of the supernatural characters dies. I'll write more about in in the finale review.
