John C. Reilly for Guardians?

The Next Agent Coulson?

There has been a lot of casting rumors and “offers” over the weekend for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The biggest of which is the offering of Rhomann Dey of to John C. Reilly (Boogie Nights, Wreck-It Ralph). There is also a rumor that Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) has been offered the role of the villain that may see the light and get his own spin off film.

The interesting part here is that Rhomann Dey is a reoccurring character that is head of the Nova Corps. His character here would be a go between the Guardians and S.H.I.E.L.D. This would mean a multiple movie contract for Reilly. Which opens the us up to the question, could Lee Pace be up for Nova? That would lead us to then ask if Nova is the villain, where is Thanos?

The latest rumor is that Yondu (Michael Rooker) is the film’s bad guy.

All this isn’t written in stone yet true believers. All we do know is that Groot and Rocket Raccoon haven’t even been cast at this point.

What do you think Maniacs? Is this getting out of hand? Can we just have a cast list and a basic synopsis?

The Brief Synopsis: Guardians of the Galaxy centers on Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Pratt), a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone want.

Guardians of the Galaxy arrives August 1, 2014.

I'd like to think of him as a barkeep of some description. Voicing Groot I could also see going down well.

Question.. is guardians suppose to be pretty serious, or are we  talking giddy humor/kind of serious?

I think Iron Man type homour. The odd bit here and there. I'm just guessing though.

When I first saw this headline, I confused John Reiley with John Mcginley from Scrubs and Office Space, and it hit me all of a sudden, John McGinley would be the perfect fit for Guy Gardner, if they ever got around to putting that character in a movie, and then it hit me even harder; Guardians of the Galaxy is still going to idiot half-brother of the Mavel Film Universe, even if they get DeNiro for Thanos, Morgan Freeman as God, and exhume Olivier's corpse to play Star Lord.  That being said, if I'm interpreting the character right, Dey is sort of an interstellar Coulson?  If that's the case, Reiley would be a good choice.  And for people questioning the serious vs. giddy humor aspect of GotG, it has a talking, gun toting Racoon for fuck's sake (who you just know is going to be voiced by Eddie Izzard).  How could it hope to achieve any level of seriousness?  What film writer could start with that cast of characters and write anything with the level of maturity we've been treated to in the first round of Marvel films?

You guys obviously ain't too familiar with Gunn's humor, it won't be too kiddy if at all that's for sure.

Lee Pace is rumored to be NOVA after Reilly's character

Yondu as a villain? I hope is a misunderstood villain because he's a hero in the comic. But I can see him acting out of rage after losing his people then coming to his senses and joining the good guys.

This movie is going to be so awesome. I guess the same bitter cynics would have said the same of StarWars back then if the internet existed.

What I love about this is that it will be totally off the wall.

Face it, we like some of our superhero movies int he past few years but some try to be much grounded to close to reality. From the realistic Nolan Batman or even the Mandarin and no power rings, some of these try to get too serious.

I love how this will be a straight up cosmic adventure with crazy characters and I'm sure will be funny. There is one thing the Star Wars prequels lacked was humour. I think this will fill the void.  What will make this absolutely different is that it still takes place in our world/timeline. So no galaxy far far away. No 300 years into the future. I'm more excited for this than Cap 2 and Thor 2!

I'm not putting any stock in this news it's just too confusing.

The movie is scheduled to be released in August 2014.  We all like to think we can predict the future (a fact that makes bookies rich)...but at this point no one who is not directly involved in the making of this film, knows what it will or won't be (and maybe some of them aren't quite sure either)

I'm a dick.. I really like the realistic approach to super hereo films. But thats just me. Though, mentioned above, this is a space adventure. So yeah, out of the Marvel films coming out, this one seems far less replicated. I'm ready for the cycle to change.

I also agree, too mucb realism can fault the story. None of them are completely perfect. I just go for the ones that best suit how I'd imagine a film.
