January 4, 2006 (Variety): Empire recently caught up with actor turned director Jon Favreau to discuss JOHN CARTER OF MARS. Favreau stated that material "has gone through dozens of incarnations and because of how expansive it is and the fact that there's only one human character and most of the other characters are fifteen feet tall green martians there has never been the technology available to bring it to the screen. But now with the technology that exists I'm pretty confident that we come up with something really cool." Now if only the results actually live up to the written material and then more. This is the type of movie I would gravitate to time and time again. Movies are supposed to transport one to the world of the imagination and technology is advanced and improving in the field of special effects. I want to see movies that show other worlds and otherworldly beings. I never will understand and dislike these zombie, undead, horror films. I ain't interested in that absolute absurd nonsense. I am aware of Edgar Rice Burroughs through Michael Whelan's paintings and damn it sure would be awesome if the films can do better than the paintings. Fantastic!!!
