The stars turned out in Los Angeles yesterday for the world premiere of Disney’s John Carter. Guests included stars Taylor Kitsch and Willem Dafoe, as well as sci-fi luminaries such as Bruce Boxleitner and Sigourney Weaver.  Numerous props and costumes were on display during the after-event party, and Mania was there to give you a look. Have a gander at the pictures below and see if you can spot them when the film premieres. This film is right up there with Avengers as my top films of the year and I was glad to read some pretty positive comments coming out of an early screening by some critics. I'm nbot surprised that Stanton delivered an awesome flick I just hope word of mouth can overcome the hostility and negative comments expressed by some on the internet

Any fan of this genre should support the grandaddy of so many sci/fi classics. From Flash Gordon all the way to Star Wars and Avatar they all owe something to this. IGN had a nice piece on this last week showing how influential this is to the sci/fi world

I'm there opening night either way plus the fact that some I-Max theaters will be giving out free mondo posters means I'll be there a couple of hours early to secure one

This is going to rock.  I may pay the extra to see it on I-Max too.

Is it just me, or in the pick with Dafoe, Kitsch looks like Wil Wheaton?

Can't wait to see this!

I can't wait to see this!

One of my favorite book series.

This one is my must see this year, with Avengers pulling a close 2nd.

One, it's great to have actual Mania staff members at the premiere. Kudos to you!

Two, I'm also going to be there first weekend. As Wiseguy said, the books are the grandaddy of nearly everything genre fans enjoy and I'm hoping the filmmakers have done right by it.

Three, I've read somewhere on the web that the trailers and commercials are not getting a strong response from the public. They feel indifferent about the film. I hope that's not the case and the people show up. Some fan made an excellent trailer assembled out of all the footage available on the internet that for me at least gives you a better idea of what the movie is about. Search for "fan made trailer, john carter" on Youtube to find it.

This baby will be playing in three weeks on our new IMAX screen here in OKC. They say it's the biggest in the world as of right now, 4000 square feet. Can't wait.

This movie would have been my dream moviemaking project if I was independently wealthy.  I am glad it is being made and with A list studio, director, actors, special effects etc.  I will def be seeing this opening weekend and will encourage any and all to go.

Early buzz on this is that it's mixed to not positive.  A lot of comparisons to Prince of Persia.  I still have not seen a single new movie in 2012 and this one isn't going to get me their either.

Wiseguy 2/28/2012 6:17:58 AM

shac, that's the biggist DIGITAL I-max not the biggest I-Max. I believe Australia has the biggest I-Max screen overall.

Hobbs I dopn't know where you read that but bleedingcool had some tweets and they were very positive. The Prince of Persia comparison I've heard has been by folk who have not seen it and are just talking
