Music from the Movies (www.musicfromthemovies.com) reports the upcoming film version of children's author Chris Van Allsburg's book Zathura will get an original score by John Debney. The composer has been hired by Columbia Pictures to write the music for the film that is directed by Jon Favreau, whose previous film, Elf, also had a John Debney score. Zathura opens in the US in November and is a science fiction story about two brothers who experiences an intergalactic adventure when their house embarks on a magic journey through space.
Before he starts working on Zathura, Debney will re-team with director Robert Rodriguez and fellow composer Graeme Revell. The trio, who recently worked on the music for Sin City, will provide the music for The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3-D, Rodriguez new action adventure for younger audiences. The film is set to premiere this summer.
In addition to these two films, Debney has also written the score for the upcoming animated comedy Chicken Little and is also attached to another animation project, The Barnyard.
