JOHN FROM CINCINNATI: His Visit: Day Nine

Here we are the season finale, more ex-Deadwood actors and more weirdness. Do we know anymore about the story? Well, no not so much. Do we really know anything about what we’ve spent the last ten weeks watching? Again, no, not so much. Oddly there is closure for many of the characters and John even gives us some ideas about their future, but there’s nothing for the viewer. It’s like the creators of the series wrote the show and the season finale in particular for themselves and the characters not for the audience.
In the opening of the episode John and Shaun hurdle through the waves in matching uniforms and doing synchronized surf tricks. This scene exhilarated me and was excited for what would follow. During the scene we also visited most of the other main characters all in, if not happy, but more positive positions. So it just seemed like a lot of nothing happened with only a few notable events. One such event is that Bill finally made it up those stairs in his house and he sat near a hospital bed set up there for his wife. As he tells her of his current adventures Zippy makes a triumphant return. Also, Stinkweed organizes a parade and rally to announce the signing of the entire Yost family and John. The idea is to not only start promoting them as being “back in the game” but Stark also manages to cover all of the odd events surrounding the Yosts as part of his promotion machine. He even shows off the stick figure image posted on the internet by John to represent Shaun’s disappearance as the new logo for Stinkweed. The preparation for the parade provided an interesting scene where a car salesman took over to John for a few minutes when John was “taken offline”. Oh and there was another sequence where Cass did her best imitation of Cissy. This is really inherent of this episode; it’s made up of short interesting sequences that don’t add up to much.
Speaking of Stark, the Yost family did a pretty clever thing when Shaun and John returned, Butchie pulled Shaun to the side to talk to him and left Stark to talk to John and try to find out where he and Shaun have been. Freddie couldn’t get any information from John before and neither could Bill so why not try the slickest guy on the beach? The scene was hilarious because Stark approached the situation in every way he could think of but he never broke any ground with John. I think he in fact came away from the conversation even more confused, I know I did.

Can you explain to me why you gave it a D?
Is "Cissy" (Rebecca DeMornay) that much an annoyance?
