John Moore will direct a remake of the 1978 conspiracy thriller Capricorn One, reports Variety. Peter Buchman penned the screenplay for New Regency. The original cult hit was penned and directed by Peter Hyams and starred Elliot Gould, James Brolin and O.J Simpson. John Davis is producing via his 20th Century Fox-based banner.

Plot Concept: The remake is a reimagining of the story that revolves around a group of astronauts of an aborted mission to Mars.

Moore, who helmed 20th Century Fox's upcoming vidgame adaptation Max Payne, has a number of helming projects in development at both Regency and Davis Entertainment including Splinter Cell and Virulents at Regency and The Last Mission at Davis.

This is a remake that I could agree being done. It's been quite awhile since the original. New FX could make it better. And with people always buzzing about government conspiracies with 9/11 it could be quite topical. I personally don't believe in any vast secret skullduggery going on with 9/11, the moon landing, or Kennedy but it's enough of a thing in the general public's consciousness to make this a good movie idea again.

They should get OJ to reprise his role for the movie.

I DVR this thing from TMC about a month ago and still haven't watched it. If I remember correctly this played off the fears we didn't land on the Moon. I suppose this could be good but with nobody paying attention to space like they were in the 70's I wonder how it will do. There will always be idiots who believe everything is a conspiracy but they are not in large numbers.

O.J.'s moon gloves wouldn't fit.. you must acquit.

Don't know why, probably because i can't remember that far back, but I really liked this movie. I was only 8 when it came out and this isn't a kids movie..lol. I hope they do a good remake with a current event. Looking forward to this movie.

Oh my god! Another remake?!? I must poo poo it immediately on that basis!!!

Oh wait. This one makes some sense. Here’s a decent but dated film that not a lot of people are familiar with. They certainly ain’t cashing in with name recognition trickery here. We’ve had a hell of a Mars program going the last decade plus and there is certainly the whole conspiracy angle mentioned that’s all the rage these days. Not so sure about the director. Moore’s Omen remake was pretty damn crappy and pointless. Not even Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles could save that. Haven’t see the original Capricorn One in years but I did enjoy it.

Also have to cop to being someone who doesn’t think the official story on 9/11 is entirely truthful and something akin to an actual investigation should be conducted. Ask yourself why Osama Bin Laden isn’t wanted in connection with that crime. Better yet. Ask the FBI why. So I’d be considered a conspiracy nut by most y’all. Be that as it may I do think we landed on the moon.

Moore’s the only potential sticking point I have with this flick so far but I hope it works out to be a good film. Hopefully they’ll keep it as more of a thriller/conspiracy film then just updating it with a lot of explosions.

So Osama is hiding in the mountains because he prefers cave dwellings? This is why politics needs to stay out of this website.

No. He's probably been dead for several years now and ain't hiding anywhere. If he were alive he'd be hiding in cave dwellings because he's a terrorist who is being hunted by the US Armed Forces. I just said he's not wanted by the FBI in connection with 9/11. I didn't say he wasn't a terrorist. If you don't want to discuss it don't feed into me. I just mentioned I'm a conspiracy nut because conspiracies are a topic being discussed in relation to this movie.
