20th Century Fox has confirmed to Music from the Movies (www.musicfromthemovies.com) that composer John Powell (SHREK, THE BOURNE SUPREMACY, EVOLUTION) has been hired to compose the music for ICE AGE 2: THE MELTDOWN for release in March next year. The sequel to the 2002 hit scored by David Newman is directed by Carlos Saldanha, who previously co-directed ROBOTS, which was also scored by John Powell. The new ICE AGE picture takes place in a time when this very age is reaching its end and a massive flood threatens Manny, Sid, Diego and all the other animals. Adventure and comedy to be expected as in the first film. No word yet about a soundtrack album, but a score CD should be inevitable.
John Powell recently scored MR AND MRS SMITH and a score album featuring that score has been released by Lakeshore Records. Other upcoming projects are HAPPY FEET, THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, and, according to a report from Scoremagacine, Paul Greengrass' sci-fi thriller, WATCHMEN.
