Collider.com is reporting (from a press release) that the original Flash, John Wesley Shipp, will indeed make a cameo on the Arrow spin off The Flash. Shipp played Barry Allen aka The Flash for 21 episodes of the short lived series from 1990-1991. A personal favorite of mine, which surprisingly holds up very well. Shipp’s character is being kept a secret. So will he be a police mentor to Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen (aka The Flash)? Hopefully, they will have Shipp make a brief cameo as the original Flash, Jay Garrick. This way they can pay homage to what has come before and write him in for later stories.

It's Dawson's dad yo!!

I'm glad they're giving Shipp some respect. I thought The Flash TV series deserved at least an honorable nod. Everybody just kinda forgot he played a superhero when he showed up on Dawson's Creek.

As I said before, I think that Barry Allen watched a TV series called 'The Flash' as a kid and it was the Jay Garrick version, and that Shipp will play both the TV version (during obligatory flashbacks) and a sort of 'spirit guide' within the speed force, something that Barry's subconscious uses to calm him down in tricky situations...

:)

Then again what if he was real..?

So he plays this character for twenty years, starring in serials in the 1940s and a colour TV series in the 1960s...

But the thing is he was the real deal all along... no special effects. Then he mysteriously vanishes, trapped for 50 years in the speed force and is released by Barry in 2014.

I thought  his boyhood hero was the Grey Ghost

I can't see DC/WB making him Garrick or Max Mercury; too sensational for them with their "realistic" approach to their superhero characters.  I bet he'll portray Barry's imprisoned father.

Great news... That show for what and when it was, was a good show. Jay Garrick would be a very cool role for him. Is Mark Hamill gonna show up?

Nice.  I thought the old Flash show was pretty good given the campy way superhero properties were handled back then.
