Paramount is hoping that John Woo (WINDTALKERS, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II) will bring his thrilling directorial style to their adaptation of PAYCHECK, based on sci-fi author Philip K. Dick's short story.
VARIETY reports that Woo is currently in negotiations to direct the futuristic tale of a man who can't remember what he has done for the past two years. He must search for clues about his whereabouts using common objects such as ticket stubs and bus tokens, which lead to a government secret.
Brett Ratner (SUPERMAN, RED DRAGON) had been in talks to direct PAYCHECK before he signed on to SUPERMAN; Kathryn Bigelow (K-19, STRANGE DAYS) had also eyed the project.
PAYCHECK was originally published in 1953. Other film adaptations of Dick's works include MINORITY REPORT, IMPOSTER, TOTAL RECALL and BLADE RUNNER.
