I only want this if Speilburg directs. #3 was total crap. The story wasn't so bad, but the actors & characters didn't make it work. Plus the dinosaurs looked fake.

Despite the fact that Jurassic Park 4 has been slumbering in Universal Pictures' development hell these past few years, director Joe Johnson seems excited about the prospects of the franchise returning to the big screen. While promoting The Wolfman to AICN the director of the third dinosaur adventure was asked about the next installment.
"There is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it's nothing like the first three," Johnston told the site, "It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved."
Johnston hammered that change-of-direction point down by revealing that the fourth storyline is unlikely to center on humans surviving a dino attack on either of the islands shown in the first three films.
"It was hard enough to figure out the second and third reason for them to go, but it would take it off in a whole other trilogy basically, but when it gets to that level it's sort of about studios and Steven [Spielberg's] thing and who knows. I think we are at that point where we are due for another one if we are going to do it."

I think if they do this "different" direction I think it should involve the dino's mutating into even more deadly forms. After all orginally the dino's were'nt supposed to be able to reproduce but they did anyway and they were supposed to be lysene dependant but they found a way around that too.
Or maybe have a rival company come in capture a few dinos to try to reverse engineer the process that created them. But of course they screw up even worse than Ingen did and create a whole new species of X-Dinos that escape and start wreaking havoc.
Two words: Mutant Dinosaurs.
Also, has jonhston said anything about Captain America yet?
Spiderhero seems to be the new sour-puss of the site..doesnt seem to like much of anything..lol
JP 1 and 3 were good but JP 2 felt forced..however the CVGI in all of them was pretty good fo their time..especially JP 1. Saw that when i was 12 or 13 and it was amazing to see "real" dinosaurs!! If they make a 4th one, i hope they take their time on it .
Forget directing! Freakin' CAST Captain America so we can stop guessing (badly, most likely..)
I don't have any trouble with a 4th JP movie if the story is good. I own 1 & 2 on DVD, but not the third. The second one is a stretch for me, but the 3rd was just.....bad...
I thought 1 & 2 were great but 3 was just a bad re-tread of the first for me.
I bet the new direction is the plot thread left hanging from #2. When the ship came into dock in that one the whole crew had been chewed up even though the T-Rex had been trapped below deck. I had assumed that raptors were aboard and they snuck off and would show up as a threat skulking though the city in the third film but that never happened. Maybe they'll do that now.
This will be made with or without speilberg. Hollywood's formula is Sequels Equal Money. At this point they don't care about content anymore.
Chopsaki also has a good point in that this franchise should have run its course. The main thrill for the first couple of movies was that this was the first time photo-realistic dinosaurs were finally seen on screen. All the dinos before including all the Harryhausen work are fantastic but in Jurassic Park we actually got to see them look as real as we've always imagined them and it was truly awe-inspiring.
Now you can see them look just as good in numerous films and every week on TV on the Discovery channel. They really have to come up with a great story that stands on its own if they intend to make people come to the theater again just for the thunder lizards.
Dr. Ian Malcolm: "Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
This line kinda sums it up for me. Yes they could make another Jurassic Park movie without Steven Spielberg directing it, but should they? I'm rather skeptical of this "different" direction they say they wanna take it in. It won't matter though because even a lame Jurassic Park movie can gross 360mil. I guess until we see some sort of plot outline all we can do is hold onto our butts...
