Jonathan Nolan talks THE DARK KNIGHT

In an interview with Sci Fi Wire, Jonathan Nolan talked about the writing process that goes into creating a script with his brother Christopher Nolan.

"We do discrete drafts," Jonathan Nolan said. "We tried at various points to write together, and that doesn't work. We both think of writing as a tortured and solitary process. And so I'll do my draft, but there's always a dialogue there, always conversations. I mean, he's right now fixing all my mistakes on The Dark Knight, and we're talking about it. And then I'll hopefully get back in there and do a little more work on that film. We sort of tend to bounce the script back and forth as complete drafts."

He continued, "The adaptation there is from 60 years' worth of unbelievably talented, creative people working on one character. So that's a really fun job, because you get to read thousands of comic books and sort of get to choose what's good and what's not good. And then you also get to sit around and say, 'All right, what would I like to do with this character who's been so well developed and such a rich sort of background?' That's a really, really fun job. I'd think we'd be more nervous about making a sequel to something, but with that character it really is so much fun to work on. Hard to mess up."

I liked the Dark Knight a lot better when he was called "Carpool" with Tom Arnold.

Uh... this isn't really much for news except to say they're grabbing stuff from the comics.

And jamesdalton, new joke please.
I'm getting tired of the "Carpool" gag.
Thanks.

I think this is an interesting article... no big braekthroughs but I love hearing someone talk so passionately about the history of comic character, it shows that they respect the work and lends credability to their take on the subject matter. Like many others I am a batman fan and want the Dark Knight done right. Still can't wait to see Ledger as the Joker, was a little disappointed to hear that there will be two villains however, I would like to see Mr. J get the spotlight he deserves.

Madmanic, there were a few villians in Begins, Nolan luckily didn't Schumacher it up by giving everyone there own music, and costumes, and lighting. It was done tastefully.

I think the Nolan boys really respect the history of the character, which is nice to see. I'm looking forward to The Dark Knight, because there's no origin story to slow down the movie.
