Antonello in Italy
We were relieved to learn yesterday that our good friend Antonello Blueberry is doing well after a catastrophic earthquake struck central Italy this weekend. Although Antonello does not live near the quake site, the effects of the quake are far-reaching. Over 150 currently believed dead and tens of thousands of people have instantly been rendered homeless.
Our thoughts are with the people of central Italy as relief and rescue efforts continue.
Yep, WOLVERINE Pirate Out
Variety confirms that Fox News has given Roger Friedman the boot. Friedman is the columnist who posted his review of 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' while playfully advocating online piracy of intellectual property. Although Sunday's report indicated a firing, a statement from Fox indicated a resignation.
"Fox News representatives and Roger Friedman met today and mutually agreed to part ways immediately. Fox News appreciates Mr. Friedman's 10 years of contributions to building FoxNews.com and wishes him success in his future endeavors. Mr. Friedman is grateful to his colleagues for their friendship and support over the past decade."
Fox News and 20th Century Fox, the film studio behind 'Wolverine' are separate entities, both owned by News Corp.
FULL METAL PANIC on the big screen
'Full Metal Panic' may be the next manga to hit the big screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Mandalay Pictures has picked up the rights and plans a live-action version which could star Zac Efron ('High School Musical').
Thanks to Antonello Blueberry for the submission.
BIZZARO - The Screenplay
So, apparently screenwriter Robert Gordon ('Galaxy Quest') went ahead and whipped of a script for a 'Bizzaro Superman' movie on spec.
For those who don't know what "on spec" means: spec is short for "speculation". In other words, Gordon is acting on his own and speculating he can sell the screenplay after he's done. Writing spec scripts based on corporate owned characters is usually seen as dicey, as you really only have one potential customer to sell to (in this case Warner Bros). If they don't like it, you're S.O.L.
But, Gordon is a guy with a sense of humor and he's written this thing and it has landed in the capable hands of Latino Review. So, if you want the scoop on how the script reads and whether it merits a thumbs up or a thumbs down, click through and check out Latino Review's video analysis of the work.

Bay says TRANSFORMERS 2 is different
Speaking at ShoWest last week, Michael Bay promised a bigger bang for the buck with the new 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'.
"I'm very confident in the movie; the movie is way different [from the first film]. It's epic, it goes around the world, and it's the first film to shoot on the pyramids in like 40 years," Bay is quoted as saying in a recap by IGN. "The robot technology is far more advanced than the way it was in the first movie in the terms of the acting level we were able to get out of the robots. It feels different... I'm confident in it!"

Channing Tatum won't be THOR
MTV Splash Page says we can lay to rest those rumors of Channing Tatum being a contender for 'Thor'.
The actor told the site that he's met for the part, but doesn't see getting cast in the role.
“I think they’re looking for someone more Nordic-looking,” Tatum said.
Thanks to Antonello Blueberry for the submission.
Zack Snyder on 300 Sequel
It seems impossible to make a sequel to a movie where all of the principal characters are killed, but chatter of a follow-up to the smash hit '300' has been discussed off and on for years now. The latest comments come from Mr. Zack Snyder himself who spoke at the ShoWest event about the prospect. MTV Splash Page has the report.
Snyder said he'd love to do such a movie.
“Frank is definitely working on an idea,” Snyder explained. “If Frank comes up with a great idea and draws something cool, there’s no reason why we wouldn’t make another movie.”
When asked how a sequel would be possible, Snyder offered, "There’s something that happens in history between Leonidas dying at the Hot Gates and Platea," Snyder said. "That’s a year that’s left out of the [original] movie. A lot happened."
This comment surprises us, as we always felt the more interesting story was the historic sea battle, that happened concurrent to King Leonidas' stand at the Hot Gates. There, a small fleet of Spartan war vessels managed to defeat an overwhelming number of Persian boats. In fact, had they not succeeded in their stand on the ocean, Leonidas' land based strategy would have collapsed immediately.
Regardless, it all seems to hinge on Frank Miller coming up with the graphic novel first.
Here are Snyder's complete comments:
Tatum wasn't my top choice for the Odinson anyway. I didn't realize this cat was Pretty Boy Floyd in Public Enemies. That alone gives his acting more credibility. Maybe he can try out for Captain America or Hank Pym. I'm assuming they'll work Pym into the Avengers movie one way or the other if they don't do his much talked about solo project. He is a founding and key member.
Byzarro isn't one of my favorite characters. He's just too dumb and too goofy IMO. I guess I'm a bit ambivalent about this. But I don't see WB green lighting this anyway.
I'm down for a 300 sequel. But is Frank Miller's involvement really neccessary?
I'd forgotten that Fox was in Jonah Hex. Looking forward to this and not just because Fox is in it.
