Josh Friedman talks SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES

By: Karl Schneider
Date: Thursday, September 07, 2006

Josh Friedman recently talked with CHUD about Fox's upcoming TV show THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, a Terminator themed series.

The show will revolve around Connor and her savior son, John Connor. The series will explore what happened to Sarah Connor after the end of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, when the character went on the run.

"I would like to be able to explore as many different avenues of Terminator mythology as possible," said Friedman. "I think to do a show that is a completely Terminator-less environment would probably not be, in the long run, a wise move or the most interesting thing."

He continues by saying, "I would say it's going to be a hybrid. It'll be somewhere in between it's not going to be a Terminator of the week show, but it's also not going to be soap opera."

So there will be terminators even though John never mentioned any other encounters besides T2 during T3? So, basically there's no way it will actually fit into the established continuity? This is why they need to stay away from prequels. Move forward with your ideas.

The series is going to be a big web of conspiracy akin to the X-files, showing how the machines have sent back robots to infiltrate the highest levels of government and technology, with this setup, Sarah Connor and her son are put on Interpol, and they must do what they can to survive in hiding while eluding the terminators that are sent to them, the show will show the predecessors to the Terminatrix and will show the real magnitude of the war on the machines and how far beyond in the past everything was planted.

This is going to be shit, guaranteed.

This show will just make people ask "Why didn't they just send each new version of terminator back to kill Sarah Conner at the same time the first one was there? Multiple Terminators against that virgin guy... should be a breeze..."

You're right, John never mentioned any encounters. But anytime you have time travel involved, continuity goes right out the window.

If they're smart, they should have two parallel stories: 1) focus on Sarah & John on the run 2) Show the development of Skynet. I'm sorry - the explanation of skynet's return in T3 was absolute shite, I would've loved the movie if it centered around the development of skynet following the events of T2. Maybe develop the story so we see skynet as a learning "child", being cute at times, but as it learns more and more about the world, it begins to view man as an irrational and destructive force, thus putting out there it's reason to destroy mankind...to simply survive.

And you can show the terminators in development at Norad or some sh!t and have "dreams" of the future where we see terminators we've never seen before like the T-1,000,000 and the ones Kyle talked about in T1. This show could be good, if done right....

Or, you can take a page from the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, and start every show with a scene from John's future, during the war (this is where we see the terminators) and through narrative he mentions something about how this reminds him of the time he was with his mother. The show would then start from there, 10 years before or some junk. See, it's not so hard if you have the right people throwing ideas out there ^_^

I'll definately watch it and enjoy. Terminator series was awesome . I hope T4 if it ever comes out takes place totally in the future with the struggles between the machines and the surviving humans. Rease 041028 ..... Bring back Michael Bein.
