Here is the new trailer for Journey to the West or better known as Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons. The film is by Stephen Chow who has directed Kung Fu Hustle (2004) and Shaolin Soccer (2001).

Synopsis: Based on the classic tale from Chinese literature, Journey to the West takes place in a world plagued by demons, who cause its human inhabitants unspeakable suffering. Young demon hunter Xuan Zang, fearlessly guided by his belief in “giving himself for the greater cause”, risks his all and conquers a water demon, a pig demon and the demon of all demons, Sun Wukong. He embraces them as his disciples, and melts them with love. Meanwhile, Xuan Zang discovers the true meaning of Greater Love himself. In order to atone for their own sins and save the common people, the four of them embark on a journey to the West that’s full of challenges…

This looks very entertaining, but it also looks like it has nothing to do with Journey to the West.

It looks like it took more cues from Dragonball than Journey to the West. (Even though Dragonball is inspired by Journey to the West there are very few similarities beyond the first 13 episodes or first volume)

Still, it peaked my curiosity enought to see it. And I loved Kung Fu Hustle

For a second there I thought it was the next Seth MacFarlane film A Million Ways to Die in the West, that's the one I want to see. Not really interested in this unless it's on tv

I have no knowledge of the original tale but I just loved Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. His style is so innovative and orignal. I'd love to see this but asian cinema is very hard to come by for me so unless it is critcally accliamed in the US I'll have to wait until it pops up in some obscure place on DVD.

I'm watching it. I just wish Stephen Chow would get over his thing on not making films based on other people's ideas because he would make an awesome Dragonball movie!
