Franchise star Milla Jovovich was the leading source of information and set photos (via her Twitter) for last year's Resident Evil: Afterlife. With that in mind, it shouldn't come as a shock to you Maniacs that she'll likely be the primary source in regards to the upcoming fifth installment in Sony Screen Gems' profitable franchise. Of course it likely doesn't hurt that she's married to series executive producer and returning director Paul W.S. Anderson.

The actress has once again responded to fans via Twitter, confirming that she will indeed be returning to star in the next chapter while also giving us a name for the next 3D sequel.

"I think its called RE: Retribution, but i have to ask paul 2 b sure."

Milla also adds that fans will once again see Japan as a setting within the next flick with ""I pray 4 japan everyday and i can't wait 2 go there and shoot the nxt RE!"

As for the common complaint among fans of Capcom's Resident Evil series, she responded to those comments as well in consecutive 140 characters or less tweets.

"Just 2 let the RE fans know, cause there's been a bunch of questions abt the nxt film, paul has kids that are proffessional players...all they do is play the games till they master every level and unlock every code. they play the games for WEEKS and give paul the footage. So he's literally watching days of the most awesome RE players out there to get inspiration 4 the nxt installment of the franchise. "

No director or screenwriter is officially attached but Resident Evil: Afterlife helmer Paul W.S. Anderson confirmed he had a fifth story in mind when he led the previous 3D installment last year. And fans who watched the last movie obviously saw the cliffhanger ending which set it all up.

Sony Screen Gems has Resident Evil: Retribution a 3D release date of September 14, 2012.

The movies are decent, especially the first one but to me they took the horror out of Resident Evil.  At least the first one there was that sense of feeling trapped with zombies and creatures lurking for flesh.  The rest of them felt more sci fi with a touch of horror.

Wiseguy 5/16/2011 12:34:58 AM

Agree raa. Maybe that's why the first still remains the best of the bunch

I guess I still have a year to catch  RE4 and be all caught up. Yeah that's right, despite popular belief I don't automatically go see every 3D movie that comes out

I really enjoyed the first of the series, but have despised each sequel that followed.

Wise I haven't seen RE4 yet either, never loved these films, and I hated the second, but I love all things zombie and was entertained by the first and third in the series.  Agree with raa as well, what makes the games so awesome is the panic attack inducing moments sprinkled with great action... Need to bring the Evil back to the RE series.

I  have an idea for the next RE film. Resident Evil:Erection, horny zombie nympho-necrophilacs who all are looking for sex instead of brains. We can use the entire cast from Jersey Shore. LOL.

Must be awesome being married to Milla, what a waste of talent being in these movies. She was very good in 5th element and has not seemed to find anything decent to be in. Would love to see a porn industry/zombie crossover. Kinda like seeing Jenna Jameson lurking for hardons. That would be funny. Starring Woody Harrelson. :)  I loved the first one and the rest not so much. They have had too much of a sci-fi feel and never enough zombie feel for them now. Not to mention why would this Umbrella corp want to destroy the world? What kind of stupid business plan is that?

ThrillerSam 5/16/2011 8:00:46 AM

See the second was my favorite. I have enjoyed the series but I got into them late, I had no desire to see them till one of the girls I was seeing got me into them. I will see this one at the theater as well.

re4 was terrible, just complete garbage.  i look for re5 to up the crap factor since they run out of games to pillage.  not that it matters that there are no mo games, this movie franchise aint never been no resident evil.

oh and the re games stopped being re after 3.  4 was more action oriented and 5, well 5 turned into gears of war midway through the game.
dead spce is where its at right now for 3rd person survival horror.
InnerSanctum 5/16/2011 10:41:59 AM

I agree Hanso, RE4 was terrible.  I admit, these films are somewhat of a guilty pleasure.  However, that said, I only think the first film had any hint of suspense.  I started to have hopes for RE4.  It was obviously a Day of the Dead plot, but I really think the series is played out.  Just wrap it up already.

krathwardroid 5/16/2011 12:35:28 PM

They have to feed the zombies, guys. I expect them to keep churning these movies out for quite some time.

Mossy1221 5/16/2011 12:40:47 PM

I agree with Raa.  There is no horror in the series.   The horror is what made the video game series so popular.  If there was ever a series that  needed a reboot, RE is it.

The Silent Hill movie was not bad at all.  And the two game series are very similar.  A good video game movie can be made.
