IRON MAN Takes Checkered Flag - May 11, 2008 - 06:08pm
Speed Racer was not a great movie but it wasn't as bad as the critics have been writing. Still, when you see a car flip up in the air and land perfectly on the other side the first time, it was cool. The 15th time, it got tiresome. I thought there would enough hype for it to have a stronger weekend than it did. I know the movie was in trouble when I went on Friday afternoon to a virtually empty theater. When I went last week to Iron Man, it was packed at about the same showtime.
Note: What is with the so called comedies out there? What Happens in Vegas is the latest entry in the "this is what passes for comedy now" movies I have seen out there. With Baby Mama, Made of Honor, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and now What Happens in Vegas had absolutely horrible and unfunny previews. I don't care what critics said, I was not running out and seeing these films. I wouldn't even watch them on DVD because life is too short to waste time on crap. It says a lot that the mediocore Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanimo Bay is the highlight of comedy lately.
SPEED RACER - May 09, 2008 - 03:49pm
The problem with Speed Racer is that it is cool when a car flips up in the air, circles around, and lands on the other side perfectly the first time it happens. However, after about the 15th time, it does get repetitous and boring. The kid and the chimp got on my nerves after a while. The cast such as John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Matthew Fox, and Christina Ricci try really hard to make their characters work. Speed Racer himself looks like and uncharismatic Tobey Maguire. Yes while you are watching the movie, the excitement may take you through the movie. However, the film will probably be forgotten after Chronicles of Narnia and Indiana Jones opens.
And the 2008 MTV Movie Award Nominations are... - May 06, 2008 - 11:54pm
Is it possible to vote "none of the above" for best movie? It is sad that MTV has become so irrelevant with overhyped "reality shows" and the occasional forgettable music video. For me, MTV died a long time ago.
