I don't think you can really typecast a writer or director. Plus as much money as he's earned Hollywood I'm sure they'll give him a chance to flub one up. I'm confindent he can pull it off.

It seems that the writing team of Bill Hader and Judd Apatow (Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Pineapple Express) may be taking the plunge into the world of horror films. While talking to CHUD, Hader revealed that he has a slasher script penned alongside "Saturday Night Live" writer Simon Rich and producer-director Judd Apatow has expressed interest in seeing Hader run around attempting to escape a gruesome death.
I don't know if it's even going to get made,' Hader told me. 'Judd met with us and said "I want to do a horror movie with you. I want to see you in a slasher movie."'
Which horror films influenced the slasher script for Hader?
'It's partially Straw Dogs meets Halloween meets Home Alone meets Monster Squad.'

I think in some instances you can type cast a director. Take Michael Bay for example. You'll never see him make a good film. HA! But seriously, you won't see Bay make a film like Munich or Schindler's List. No, you know exactly what you're getting when it comes to Michael Bay...Big-bangs, stupid kindergarten humor, did I mention big bangs?
That said, I would like to see Judd tackle a horror film. Hell, it worked when Edgar Wright made Shaun of the Dead. Wright was and still is generally considered a director of comedies, but he make a pretty damn good horror film that had alot of comedy running throughout.
Could be decent. Though, generally speaking, anything "meets" anything pretty much equals crap. Hopefully, he's saying it facetiously.
Immediately this came to mind... a guys is chased by the most F-ed up things imaginable, people are dying, exploding, melting... and it turns out it's one bad acid trip. Sounds very disappointing.
But red makes a great point... Edgar's "rom zom com" was pretty darn good, so who knows.
Unless hte humor is tounge-in-cheek like Shaun of the Dead, Slither or even Scream, horror comedies don't seem to work so well. I would lieke to see what they can do. So far, I have enjoyed everything they have done. I think you can be type-cast as a writer/director. M. Night Shahylam - everyone expects a twist ending; Michael Bay - everyone expects big explosions, crazy action, and to most people, no plot; Erhen Kruger (Arlington Road, Skeleton Key, Impostor) always seems to have twist endings; Uwe Boll,,,,well, I won't go there. Kevin Smith is another good example, which is why he is doing Red State, if that ever comes out.
And speaking of Judd Apatow, I was watching the Ben Stiller show from like 92-93, and he was a writer on that show.......and if you haven't seen it, it is a great show. Ben Stiller is at his best when he is writing.
@ MrJawbreakingEquilibrium: Typecast a writer or director? Yes you can, look at Wes Craven and how long it took him to finally break from horror so he could make “Music of the Heart”. The man had to make that a clause in his “Scream 3” contract just so he could give himself the chance of breaking out of the genre. And that sucks cause that movie wasn't half bad, I wish he could break away more without having to get it in writing.
Back to the article… I am with I guess most people that this will suck or won't work cause these guys are too associated with comedy movies that people will expect that from them and they themselves probably have no real concept of how a horror movie should flow. And Hader can call it a slasher film but if you say that it meets this and that and two of them are a comedy and horror/comedy then yes you're script is probably shit and will be a comedy in the long run. Then again yes I found “Superbad” funny but like all comedies now a days after the first viewing it loses it's gusto and funniness pretty much.
Yeah, I don't know if this will be taken seriously. Judd Apatow has kind of typed-cast himself as a director of comedies/bro-mances/stoner comedies.
