Here is the first trailer for the Lana and Andy Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending. It looks to have all the right elements for a Mania worthy film. Check out the details below Maniacs and give us your thoughts on the Wachowski’s latest endeavor.

Press Release: Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis star in “Jupiter Ascending,” an original science fiction epic adventure from filmmakers Lana and Andy Wachowski.

Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things.  Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks.  Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

From the streets of Chicago to far flung galaxies whirling through space, “Jupiter Ascending” is written and directed by the Wachowskis.  Award-winning producer Grant Hill, with whom they have collaborated since “The Matrix” Trilogy, is producing, together with Lana Wachowski and Andy Wachowski.  Roberto Malerba and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers.

Channing Tatum (“Magic Mike”) and Mila Kunis (“Oz the Great and Powerful”) lead an international cast that also includes Sean Bean (“The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy), Eddie Redmayne (“Les Misérables”), Douglas Booth (“LOL”), Tuppence Middleton (TV’s “The Lady Vanishes”), Doona Bae (“Cloud Atlas”), James D’Arcy (“Hitchcock”) and Tim Pigott-Smith (“Alice in Wonderland”).

Behind the scenes, “Jupiter Ascending” reunites the Wachowskis with their longstanding collaborators, who most recently worked with them on “Cloud Atlas.”  They include Oscar®-winning cinematographer John Toll (“Braveheart,” “Legends of the Fall”); production designer Hugh Bateup; editor Alex Berner; costume designer Kym Barrett; and hair and makeup designer Jeremy Woodhead.  The music will be composed by Michael Giacchino.

“Jupiter Ascending” will showcase the kind of cutting-edge visual effects that have become the benchmarks of the Wachowskis’ films.  Dan Glass (“Batman Begins,” “Cloud Atlas”) is the film’s visual effects supervisor, a post he has occupied for the Wachowskis since “The Matrix” Trilogy.  Additionally, John Gaeta, the visual effects Oscar® winner behind “The Matrix,” is contributing to the visual effects design.

Set for release July 25, 2014, “Jupiter Ascending” is a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, in association with Anarchos Productions.  It will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

Looks pretty damn sweet. Hope it lives up to the trailer.

I think I'm one of the few that enjoyed Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas by the Wachowski's.  Will check this one out as well.

looks good. I bet Sean Bean dies though.

SmokingFrog77 12/9/2013 10:50:06 PM

Has a John Carter-esque flavour to it, no?

Sanity 12/9/2013 11:17:58 PM

I can't tell WHAT flavor (flavour?) it has.  The trailer isn't very cohesive...but it's just the first trailer.  I want it to be good.  And of course Bean dies.  He doesn't sign a contract unless his character dies right?  I'll probably watch just for Mila.  So hot.  Wish it wasn't Tatum tho.

Great sean Bean dies again

Dazzler 12/10/2013 3:43:22 AM

I bet if Sean Bean takes a sitcom he would die in it.  Hey that could be the next Chuck Norris internet thing!

Wiseguy 12/10/2013 4:14:11 AM

I think it looks damn good. I'll give anything the Wachowskis make a chance.

I wish it wasn't opening a week before GOTG, I want both to be big hits.

I also wish it wasn't Kunis in the lead role

Flyincloud 12/10/2013 4:44:51 AM

Looks very interesting.  i enjoyed Cloud Atlas too.  Speed Racer....

spiderhero 12/10/2013 4:57:07 AM

Lots of flash, but it won't hold together as a movie. These guys (yes, I spoke correctly) just throw ideas together, slap on some cool special effects & call it a movie. (The first Matrix being an exception)

I'll freely admit I'm wrong once this come out if it's actually good. But until then, it's in my "might Redbox someday" category. Even if it has the talented Sean Bean in it.
