Justice League for 2015

Spin it outward?

With Warner Brothers winning the Superman legal battle, and retaining ownership, they have announced that the Justice League movie is in "accelerate development". Their hope is to start shooting next year, with a release date of 2015.

So does this mean we will see an Aquaman movie before next year? No. Warner Brothers announced that "plan is to spin out other superheroes into their own movies following Justice League."

A plan as crazy as that just might work. Audiences will be introduced to a new Superman in Man of Steel, coming in 2013. There is the possibility that Ryan Reynolds may get another shot as the Green Lantern. Plus, regular audiences already know Batman. They'll just have to develop everyone else. Warner Brothers main problem won't be character development. It will be competing with The Avengers Sequel, already slated for May 1st, 2015.
What do you think Maniacs, a reverse Avengers film that spins its characters out into subsequent sequels?

Wow, can't help but feel that there approach(especially if rushed) is going to ruin what we've been dreaming about...  And yet there is hope!  A good script, a good director & a decent budget so as not to tie their hands... you never know :)

It's a shame though, there isn't going to be that awesome feeling you get when characters you've already gotten to know & love interact together.

furthermore, going head to head with avengers 2 is just stupid.  They should alternate yearly, that way they get full return $$ out of their flicks & we get at least one awesome team up every year!

That would be epic stupid to go against Avengers 2.  Unless they are far apart enough in the summer.

1- I was always ok with doing JL first then spinning the solo films. That was the plan back when they were about  the JL film a couple of years back. I like it, it doesn't have to nor it needs to be an exact copy of what Marvel did. Plus I'd say that Bats, Supes and WW don't quite really need solo films to introduce them to general audiences like some of Marvel characters

2- Going by past and current history 2015 should be about 365 days long. What makes anyone here think they'll be going head to head against the Avengers 2. I'd wager if anything they'll open arouind the same time the Batman films have been opening in late July. And guess what, just like this year there is enough money for 2 huge blockbusters

3- WB won the case against the Shulers and I guess this gives them enough latitude to move forward with any Superman projects but their case with the Siegels (the one WB lost) is still under appeal I believe. Hopefully and I assume it won't interfere with WB's Superman plans.

4- BRING IT ON BABY. This would make my 2 biggest wishes come true, Avengers and JL.

Avengers 2 shouldn't be a problem for the League. As huge as it was, it wasn't a movie starring Spider-Man ,Wolverine, and Marvels other top players. Justice League IS. Avengers NEEDED solo movies first so that joe public could know who half of the team even were, Justice League doesn't have that problem. It's Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. The audience is already there.

I am all good with this. Introduce a new Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Fishboy, and give Ryan Reynolds another go at Green Lantern - the situation with the first film is still salvagable. Can't wait for this, but yes, hope they leave several months between it and Avengers 2. As good as it could be, Avengers has the proven track record now that DC just can't compete with. As big a hits as TDK and TDKR were, Marvel's had a dream run in recent years, and DC can't afford to punch above their weight. Develop it right and time it right, that's what they need to do.

WB is going to screw this up. I hope not, I really do. But they don't have the vision/plan in place like Marvel does. They couldn't even reboot their comic universe in a cohesive way so I relly doubt they can do it with their movies.

It all hinges on the success of Man of Steel. If it bombs there's really no point in a JLA movie. DC could have built on the success of the Batman films the way Marvel did with Ironman. But, they didn't.

In the JL Animated series they were brought together to defend the earth from an alien invasion. If they do that in a JL movie it would be seen as if they were ripping off Avengers.

I 100% agree that Bats and Supes do not need a movie since everyone knows their origins already. Its been done over and over. You can scratch off GL as well.

Still leery of this.

1) Snyder/Cavill said Man of Steel will not be associated with JL movie. So what happens if Man of Steel is a huge hit? It will be the Nolan effect again. Dark and gritty hero in Supes (which is the direction Snyder said it is going) would be the new accepted version and people would now be keen on a Man of Steel 2. So what happens then? Man of Steel sequel is in production but in the meantimes, you have a different actor playing a boyscout Supes and then go back to Cavill Supes in MofS 2?

2) I also agree going up against Avengers is stupid. For sure they will use the July dates to distance themselves from Avengers 2 but they will still suffer from the superhero overkill. Avengers 2 having the prime weekend gives them dibs. If you look at 2012, had TDKR opened in May and Avengers in July, I think the BO numbers would be different. I think WB should instead "book" the first May weekend of 2016 before Marvel does and go with it. Just look at the huge money all Marvel movies (including the Sony and Fox ones) made on that magic weekend. This way, WB won;t have much pressure and won't look like they are riding the cottails of Avengers 2.

For me, a 2016 May opening Cavill as Supes GL movie origin (don't necessarily need Reynolds, as long as you follow the continuity a la Incredible Hulk) and I will be more than happy.

Wiseguy 10/19/2012 8:08:47 AM

I will be completely surprised if there isn't a tease at the end MOS of what's to come in JLA.

Snyder may have thought his MOS wouldn't be part of JLA but plans were never solidly set for the JL film as they appear to be now.

I can see something along the lines of Martian Manhunter approaching Superman and warning him of something evil headed earth's way......Darkseid who just finished destroying the martian population?

Or going back to OMACs created by the government and running amok.

Maybe the Amazons attack the world of men...

maybe Atlantis attacks the surface world...

tons of new and exciting ways to go.
