JUSTICE LEAGUE Losing Against Australia

It looks like the superheroes of Justice League Mortal (current title) is losing its battle against the Australian government, reports the Sydney Morning Herald. Australian director George Miller chimed in on it after his film lost the Federal Government's new film production rebate.

"A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Australian film industry is being frittered away because of very lazy thinking," Miller said. "If that's going to be the final decision, they're throwing away hundreds of millions of dollars of investment that the rest of the world is competing for and, much more significantly, highly skilled creative jobs."

Miller said he had "utter creative control" over the film and plans to appeal against the decision. "It feels to me like I'm not fighting for this film. I'm fighting for the Australian film industry."

Simon Whipp, director of the equity section of the Media, Entertainment  and Arts Alliances lobbied against the upcoming WB production filming in the land down under, describing it as an American story that will be performed in American accents.

Oh come on! Not that I`m a fan of this JLA movie but that thinking is just damn silly. Most of the Justice League are freakin either aliens or are from other places outside the US. Australia has not problem filming a British movie with all British accents, but go forbid its an American movie. What about Wolverine? The only Aussie is Hugh Jackman. Damn prison colony!

I don't get this story. They lost the rebate because they're Americans? American bashing? I can see if it was GI JOE a real AMERICAN hero, but JLA is not nec for all American cast. I guess this is an American comic but....get over it down under.

Hey if it stops this crapfest from being made then I'm all for it. JLA deserves better treatment than what these guys have in store. This should be a project that should wait until until it can be given a proper script and cast. When a movie production's main focus is marketing and money instead of story, character and substance then it shouldn't be made. I imagine the conversation around the exec table at WB is pretty much like this: "I don't know a thing about JLA...I's like Superfriends right? Well the bottom line is the cartoon is doing fantastic, so lets slap together a young teen cast to ensure that we can do like five sequels and lets put together some awesome visual effects and make this a live action movie..." If this movie gets made now, I guarantee its going to be way below the expectations of the fans.

Didn't the Matrix and Superman Returns film in Australia? So, they have a problem with people that save the world...hmmm. Although, I do respect the Prime Minster of Australia and what he said about his country. He said that Australia is English speaking and Christian and if anyone ever thinks that is going to change to get the hell out of his country, gotta love that. A guy who stands up for his country and doesn't give a shit if he hurts somenes feelings.....but I digress....Just let the movie film there already. With all the trouble this movie seems to be having, maybe they should take it as a sign.

Hmm...looks like my previous predictions over stuff that will happen before this movie is released will come true. This is turning into a comedy of errors.

More bold predictions for Things That Will Happen Before Justice League Is Released:

Haley's Comet will pass through our solar system again.

Lindsay Lohan wins her first Oscar.

Hilary Clinton re-joins the Republican party (not that we'd want her back).

Isiah Thomas leads the New York Knicks to an NBA Championship.

Mark McGwire is elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

And Whiskeymovie, you're right that both The Matrix and Superman Returns were filmed in Australia. However The Matrix wasn't "American-centric" as Whipp claims Justice League is. Superman Returns, in my opinion, certainly was an American story and makes Whipp look like a fool here.

Maybe they should change the "A" in JLA from America to Australia. Yeah...The Justice League of Australia...that's the ticket!

WISEGUY562 • Mar 19, 2008, 06:07am •
ponyboy, I don't know what JLA you're talking about because the JLA is mostly Americans or American citizens.
I always felt a bond between most of the English speaking countries, but I'm tired of seeing all these films along with the jobs they create going to other countries. Let's face it, it is an American product, created by Americans and IMO it should be made here in America. I would think that the weak dollar would make that more feasible. I'm fucking tired of everything being filmed in Australia, New Zealand or Canada. Nothing against those countries but how about we take care of our own.

Now...Maybe it's just me but, I don't see this as ''American bashing'' but just a goverment decision not to accept certain aspect of the filming industry because of specific style of speach to be represented in their country which would not be representative of their own origins.

I'm sure the Australian goverment couldn't care less which movie is film in their country but rather more importantly, HOW or WHAT or WHERE is it film in Australia and if those answers are not up to their goverment's expectation, it's normal that any movie would not be accepted to film.

That's how I see it...

But I am happy to see this movie getting in trouble more and more.

AWFUL TITLE

Wiseguy,

Maybe the American film industry will prefer to film movies in other country just for the basist of photography preferences.

There is some beautiful landmarks in the US but, there are also lots and lots more of beautiful sites all over the world that are only available in specifc countries and not in the US and that sometime is why it's chosen to film outside the US.

Canada does have a money preference where for the US, for a while it was cheaper to film there so logically it made sense to film there.

There is no way movies like Lord of the Ring could've been film in the US because it doesn't have what the movie requires.

There is many reasons why a movie would not be filmed in the US, sometimes it's just business sense, not a patriotic thing.
