A report from New Zealand news site Stuff.co.nz indicates that the 'Justice League' movie (which they insist on calling 'Justice League Mortal') may be flying to New Zealand, and not Vancouver has had previously been speculated.
The movie has been at the center of a much-publicized disagreement between director George Miller and the Australian government over tax credits. The government decided the Hollywood-based film did not qualify for the same credits that would be extended to an Australian production. Miller has argued that giving 'Justice League' tax considerations is essential to building a strong film industry in Australia.
The film's producer Barrie Osborne told The Dominion Post the superheroes that plans to roll cameras in Australia were now on hold and that New Zealand was looking like a viable alternative.
Weta Workshop, based in Wellington, has already been tapped to design costumes for the film.
"If George is unsuccessful in appealing to the [Australian] government, then there's two choices - you either scale back the movie in some substantial way or you find another place to do the movie that you can do for the budget.," Osborne said.
"He was very impressed with the work that Weta Workshop did for us on the Justice League costumes ...He admires what Peter Jackson's been able to do and the way he's organised. He would love to work here and if he did have to leave Australia, New Zealand is close. Where we end up it will depend on what we can make work budget-wise," Osborne said.
